So I've been getting messages about how I portrayed Lapis not only in her OWN STORY, but also in this book. Okay some backstory if you don't know what I'm talking about:
I decided to make a story for Lapis Lazuli, because not much is known about her. Like we sort of do, but I felt like it wasn't the whole story. So I created a story for her based on what we already know. She was on Earth at some point in time, was attacked by Bismuth( for whatever reason), placed in the mirror for a few millennia, was freed by Steven, stole the ocean, was then healed by Steven, returned to Homeworld, only to return to Earth as an informant....And you know the rest.
So to start, when we are first introduced to Lapis she was in the Mirror. We don't know she got there, until "Same Old World", when we are told she was put there by Homeworld. A lot of her actions are mostly because a massive hate boner she has for the Crystal Gems. The rest of her actions...well...I'm not sure why she did them. Like why she fused with Jasper? I mean we all seen what a cluster fuck that was, but that only fueled the whole "LAPIS IS A CINNAMON ROLL THAT NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED" fanclub. But everyone of those Lapis fans who are part of that fanclub straight up ignores that fact that she could told Jasper to fuck off and sided with Steven since he was nice to her, and that she was the one in control of the chains, so if she truly was a wuss, wouldn't it be Jasper who is in complete, and I say again, COMPLETE control of Malachite? I feel as if I covered this before...
Moving on, a few episodes later after the Crystal Gems basically separated them for their own sanity, Lapis is a complete bitch to everyone....but Steven. She blames Peridot ( who at the time they met and came to Earth) for doing her job. Peridot, who tried to push the Homeworld agenda onto the Crystal Gems but later see the beauty of Earth and the errors of her way, went out of her way to reconcile with Lapis, only for Lapis to be a complete ass to her.
Moving forward a few episodes to "Alone at Sea" Jasper, who is a very proud gem mind you , was on her knees, begging for a second chance. Lapis, even admitted that what they had wasn't healthy( sorry all you Japis shippers), but she liked torturing her. She [Jasper] then tells Steven that he is pointing the shield the wrong way, saying Lapis is the one he should be afraid of. Meaning there is more to Lapis than she is letting on. And Lapis basically confirms this, by sending Jasper flying with a killer uppercut.
Fast forward a couple of episodes to "The New Crystal Gems". Lapis doesn't recognize Connie after she[ Connie] explained to Lapis she tried to drown her. And Lapis replies with "I tried to drown a lot of people." And in the hit song 'What's the Use of Feeling Blue?" we learn that lapis lazulis were made to terraform which means "Earth Shaping (literally" . But the official definition is" the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying a planet, moon, or other body its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the environment of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life." So we can assume she basically changes a planet body so it can support gem life.
To me, that is why I have such a brutal, yet honest opinion about Lapis. I literally put Pearlmathyst for this just to clear what misconceptions some of you have about my opinions on these characters...especially Lapis. It's not that I don't pity her ( because I don't just to make that clear), I can't see myself pitying her anymore. I lost what little respect I have for her the moment she fused with Jasper. I thought the moment she was separated from her, I might try to like her again, but then she broke Peridot's recorder...and didn't apologize.
I'm sorry, that's just how I feel...
