Virginie's Point of View

December 24th

Once I said it and the policeman gets that I am not joking, a big silence follows within the crowd of people that met for bailing Harry out of jail for beating my abuser.  No one says a word and my adrenaline slowly fades away, making me really regret causing this scene and coming clean the way I did about what happened to me.  I don't even dare to look back at them, I keep facing the officers doing their job.

"What proof do you have?"  The shorter man asks me, eyeing me and his document quickly as he keeps on writing.

"What kind of sick heartless joke is that?"  Harry growls from away in the room and comes to my side to face the two men, rising his chest, straightening himself like he did in LA, to seem more intimidating.

"Please calm down, sir.  I know it's unfortunate and it seems disrespectful, but we are only doing our job."  The taller replies moving his hands in front of him to stay calm.

"Unfortunate?  My girlfriend got raped by that man in there."  He lets out loudly, clearly vexed, pointing the way from which we came.

"Harry..."  I let out, not wanting him to get too far and piss off the officers, but he doesn't listen to me.

"If that is not enough for you, I still have the clothes he ripped off her before he has beaten her too.  He threatened to hurt the ones she loves if she ever said something and it cost her her job.  She had bruises all over her body.  She was thrown out onto the streets of a city she didn't know and-"

"Harry, please stop."  I let out firmer and it gets him to look at me, something I can't reciprocate, I don't have the confidence to.

"I have already pressed charges against him.  The same thing happened to me."  I hear Zoe step in with her soft and sweet voice.

"You have cameras in the detention cells, don't you?"  I ask quickly wanting to put an end to this and finally get to drink my drink at home.

"We do."

"Well, I got him to confess.  That's why I was out there."

Harry looks at me and, this time, I look back at him.  His eyes are big and bright, surprised, yes, impressed, maybe.  I smile to him shyly, feeling like this nightmare is nearly over, as I feel his hand, warm and soft, sliding into mine on the desk.  I smile wider, my heart bursting into the most genuine joy and intertwine our fingers together.  My heart beats fast in my chest, drumming to the hope he gives me right now, but the sight of his bloody knuckles is making me worry more.

"She is right, that's why it took me so long, I heard what he said..."  The tall officer confesses.

"I have more questions to ask you."

"Can you give me a minute?"  I ask him and wait for him to nod.

I gather all my courage and look shyly at my parents.  Their expressions are exactly what I was afraid to see and that is what hurts me the most.  They know why I acted the way I did when I was home and what I was hiding.  I need to let them calm down from the shock.

"Why don't you go to the house with Anne and Robin?  Harry and I will join you when we are done.  I have my cell phone with me, I will keep you informed.  I will make sure he answers his."  I say kindly and look at Anne to lighten the mood.  I turn back to Harry, quite confused as why they are not going back to his sister's house.  "Gemma burnt your diner."
