- Let Me Love The Lonely by James Arthur

Virginie's Point of View

January 24th

"Marry me?"  He surprises me and continues with more determination, making my entire heart to burst in my chest, pacing at its fastest, making me feel very very alive.  "Marry me, Gyns.  Right now."

I get tremendously happy for a slight moment, but it fades away quickly to make me incredibly sad right in front of his eyes as he scrutinises my reaction. I get solidly hit by the reality hidden behind this fairy tale moment.

"No, Harry." I sigh with the only glimpse of strength in me and look down at his hands holding mine.  " It wouldn't mean anything..."

"Why?!"  He rushes out with the biggest frown on his face. He is clearly upset that I resist to his idea of a solution, but I have my reasons.   "It would mean that I love you and that I don't want to be away from you."

"No, it means you marry me because you are pressured to." I look back up at him and toy blindly with the hem of his shirt.

He looks at me thoroughly, his brows deeply frowned together, scaring me with his silence. Is he getting angry? He shakes his head in disbelief and looks away. He tries to get off me, but I tug on his hands to keep him on me.

"Don't get off... Stay." I almost pleads for him to oblige, my eyes searching to dive in his.

"No, Gyns. I'm really upset." His response shocks me.

"Hey, hey, hey! Baby...  Don't be mad."

"Don't baby me. I ask you to marry me now and you don't want to."

"No, that isn't it at all. I want to marry you, Harry."

"Then do it."

"Harry... Don't be like that."

"Like how?"

"Stubborn."

"You are being stubborn." He retorts arrogantly and gets off me to walk away.

"Don't walk away." I get up as well and follow him to the kitchen, my tone firmer.

"Well, I can't stand being close to you either." He takes the dirty and greasy pans on the stove and puts them in the sink, looking to do something as an escape.

"What?! Harry, please, talk to me."

"I am outraged, Gyns. I am... I am hurt." He takes the steel wool by the side of the sink and starts really cleaning my pans.

"You don't understand..."

"Tell me what I don't understand, Gyns, because I would marry you in a heartbeat, but you clearly don't want to." He stops a bit from ruining the pan with the strength with which he is cleaning it to look at me, his gaze burning me alive as I have really hurt his feelings.

"That makes me so happy that you want to. Believe me, it's what I want to..."

"There you go again." He exclaims angrier than he was, letting the pan fall back into the sink with a loud noise.
