It was final in my mind. My decision was for the best and for my future. I was going to accept Oxford's letter and go back home to study what I truly wanted to do.
I would be leaving in a couple of days to start a programme on the campus to test my skills for the major I would be studying in--it ran through May to next September.
What I wasn't looking forward to was telling Gavin. I knew he would refuse, to try and find a way to keep me rooted here in Austin, but I had to go. I've been dreaming of going to college and even though I'm 23, it's never too late to start. Burnie reassured me that my spot at Roosterteeth will always be there and my character for RWBY will be held onto until they find a way for me to voice act.
"I'm gonna have to deny that flat I signed for." I sighed, running a hand through my hair.
"I'll do it for you. You should call your dad and let him know the good news." Burnie smiled, patting my shoulder and I nodded, getting up and pulling my mobile out of my pocket.
I tapped my thumb on my dad's number, putting it to my ear to wait for his voice. I knew he would be excited for me. I knew he was disappointed when every other college denied my application, so this will certainly put him in a good mood. Finally after a few seconds of the phone ringing, he picked up.
"Hello, darling. How are you? I'm just over at the art studio." He chuckled and I could hear the distant voices of people in the background.
"I'm fine, dad. I have some interesting news, though. Remember Oxford?" I walked to my room and closed the door, biting my lip.
"Yes. Why?"
"Well, I received a letter, here at Burnie's and it was from the college," my dad's silence made me press on. "It was an acceptance letter." I grinned as I heard his excited laugh. He was such a big kid when he was excited and when it involved me doing something important or big, he always let out that same loud howl.
"You got in? A year later and you got it?" My dad asked, laughing every few seconds.
"Yeah." I knew he could tell my discomfort, so he quieted down and became serious.
"Aren't you going? Jane, this is such a big opportunity." He said.
"I am going, i-it's just that," I sighed. "I don't want to leave everyone behind." It was just a heartbreaking thing to say and I could feel the tears starting to build up.
"You don't want to leave your boyfriend." His voice was matter-of-fact.
"Daddy...I love him," I sat on the edge of my bed, my fingers touching the faded fabric of my ripped shorts. "I don't want to leave him or any of the people I met here."
"I understand, love. Just think about it, though. You go to Oxford, get your degrees, and you can go back to be with them. I know it's hard, Jane, but I want you to take the chance that's been thrown at you. You've been dying to go to this school ever since I gave you that Oxford jumper when you were 9-years-old. I'm sure Gavin will understand and realise that you have to take this." My dads voice was sincere, comforting to make the tears in my eyes dry away to be non-existent.
"I-I hope you're right." I said.
"Always am." He chuckled, making me follow him and I felt a smile grow on my face.
"So, do you still have my room? You didn't turn it into an art gallery of sorts right?" I giggled.
"It's still here and ready for you. I'll just have to clean the sheets and dust a bit. When are you coming?" He talked to someone from the art studio before returning his attention back to me.
