"Daddy!" I saw my father sitting in one of the airport chairs, flipping through one of his art books, as I trudged off the plane tube. His eyes immediately shot up to see me, a smile growing on his rugged face.
"Jane." He grinned and brought me into his arms once we came together. The last time I saw him was in the hospital and he was pale, a little tired and sickly looking, but now he had his regular tan, Italian skin glow and he shaved the beard that was beginning to form. I missed his arms around me, the feel of security and protection. Only a father could really provide that. "I've missed you. Even though it's been two or three months." He chuckled.
"Well, that's too long." I said, smiling back up at him. His cologne was the same: a strong pinewood scent that made me hug him tighter. I've smelt that same odor for the past years since I was a baby. He never seemed to change.
"Here, let me help you." He grabbed two of my bags for me, grunting from the effort.
"You sure?" I asked and he just nodded as we made our way to retrieve the rest of my bags at the baggage claim. As I turned on my mobile, a dozen tweets and text notifications popped up on my dashboard--the tweets being from fans and the texts being from everyone at the office. I smiled at the picture Lindsay sent me. It was a picture she must have taken during a Let's Play the guys and I did. I was flipping off Gavin while he mocked the motion back to me and in the background you could see Geoff laughing his arse off. Oh god, I was definitely going to miss that.
"Here they come." My dad said, dropping the bags he was holding and collecting my red bags that pushed their way over to us.
"Dad, I'm just gonna take a minute. I said I would call Gavin." He nodded his understanding and I left, tapping Gavin's number as I walked away, biting my lip for it started to tremble. It was so hard leaving the guys--my Gavin. I literally broke down in my seat on the airplane, leaning my head against the window seat as I let the tears fall down from my eyes. It was such a heart breaking thing to do, but at least everyone was supportive of my decision and they would make sure to contact me the whole time I was out here.
"Hello?" I smiled as I heard my Gavy's voice and I almost let out a sob from hearing it. It was hoarse and I don't doubt he was crying.
"Hi," My voice shook a little. "I made it."
"Oh, thank god. The plane ride takes forever, so I was really worried. Lindsay, she's fine!" Gavin yelled and I chuckled.
"Yeah, my dad's here too and we're just getting my baggage ready. What are you doing at the moment?" I watched as my dad started to come over, my bags in tow.
"Just hanging out at the office, playing a bit of GTA V to get my mind off of you leaving," I heard him sigh and I could imagine him ruffling his already tousled hair. "I already miss you. Is it too soon?" I shook my head quickly, but realised he couldn't see me.
"No, definitely not. I miss you already too. I'm gonna go to sleep early every day so I can see you at the convention quicker," I said and he chuckled. "Did Burnie get me a pass?" Burnie said he was going to call in and purchase a workers' pass for me, so that Gavin and I could be close and side by side.
"Yeah, he did once you left. I can't wait to see you in two weeks," Gavin said. My dad motioned for me to follow him out and to the car he had parked alongside the curb. The airport at this time wasn't busy. It was around almost midnight, making it sometime in the afternoon back in Texas. "By the way, that reminds me. Dan wanted to know if you could give him a ride there to the building?" I practically laughed as I hopped into the passenger side of the car as my dad said he would put my bags in.
"What a lazy arse. Doesn't he know how to drive?" I clicked in my seat belt. My dad got in beside me and popped in the key to start the ignition. As he sped off, I looked out the window, phone pressed to my ear, and watched as the familiarities I grew up with passed by me, making me feel a little more relaxed.
