Ch. 20: Misunderstanding

Kihyun

~Seoul International Supermarket~

Getting out of the car, I decided to  use the cart that some idiot left in the middle of a parking space next to us to save the poor soul that has to come out and retrieve all of them. Hyunwoo follows just bit behind me to my left. Inside of the supermarket, the smell of food floated through the air. I breathed in deeply before wandering down the aisles to gather what was necessary and reasonable priced but of course good quality ingredients. As I made my way up and down the aisles of fresh produce, I realized that Hyunwoo wasn't following me any more. "That's weird. I thought he was right behind me all this time just not talking," I muttered to myself. I walked out to the main walkway of the supermarket and scanned the crowd looking for a certain muscle bound rock of a man.

   Spotting someone who seemed to be him from behind, I walked over to him while pushing the cart. "Yah! Why weren't you following me," I said with hands on my hips. Said man turns around and says, "Yoo Kihyun, is that you?"

"Huh," I replied before really looking at the person in front of me.

"Remember me, Hyungsik from back in high school."

"Ahh, right. Haven't seen you in years," I said through tight lips as I never had expected to met my ex boyfriend.

"You still looking fine," he says after whistling.

"Thanks," I answered after subconsciously brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Love the pink hair. Reminds me of that one webtoon character that you were into," he says with a stupid (but adorable) half smile. I just laughed awkwardly instead of responding. "You single?"

"Mmm, yep. Why?"

"Wanna give it a go again? For old times sake," he says with a sly smile and passive aggressively taps my arm with his fist.

"I do not think so, Hyungsik. Not after what happened."

"Come on, Kihyun ah. Do not be a party pooper. The past is the past," he replies in a mocking tone. I just eyed him weirdly and shook my head.

Trying to avoid talking to him more, I tried to excuse myself and leaving behind the cart of ingredients/food that we need for the restaurant to do so. Hyungsik was not about to have it. He grabs onto my wrist and pulls me back to him. "Hyungsik! Choi Hyungsik, stop it this instance," I said in a low tone before casting a look around to see if anyone was watching them.

"No," he says firmly before tightening his grip.

"Ow! You're hurting me. This isn't you," I said thru gritted teeth.

"Kihyun, you will be with me again," he says directly in front of my face. I flinched hard and tried to get out of his grip but couldn't get away. Just then, a fist comes flying and hits Hyungsik in the face which caused him to let go. I clutched at my throbbing wrist and looked to see Hyunwoo standing there fuming. I gasped as I took in the situation.

"Why did you do that," I yelled.

"He was hurting you," he fires back.

"I can deal with it myself," I stated before squatting down to check on Hyungsik who was tearing up. "Hush, Hyungsik. It's okay. It wasn't your fault. He only misunderstood what was happening. I know you didn't mean to be forceful," I said in a voice that people normally would use with children and gently placed my hand on his injured cheek.

"Kihyun I..." he babbles.

"It's okay," I repeated.

Before I could say any more reassurances, Hyunwoo pulls me off the ground and drags me out the supermarket leaving Hyungsik on the floor with teary eyes.

~outside of the supermarket~

~in the parking lot~

"Why the hell are you comforting him," Hyunwoo growls.

"Why? What is it to you? You didn't know what the situation was! I knew what to do and you punched him," I shrieked not particularly caring who was looking at  us anymore.

"He was obviously hurting you and you were trying to escape."

"Son Hyunwoo, you do not even think before you act. Who do you think you are (to do this)?"

A/N: Just to let you all why Kihyun is comforting Hyunsik, it is because Hyunsik has a mental disorder.
