Momentarily forgetting what I was cooking, I listened to Minhyuk trying to convince Kihyun to go sing for the customers. Part of me wanted to butt in and say that he did not have to perform for my father's friend and his friends if he did not want too, but the rest of me wanted to hear how his singing voice sounds like. If his regular speaking voice was so nice to listen too, his singing voice must be even better. Anyways, he had promised me sort of that he would let me listen to him sing one day. So, today might just very well be that day.
"But...," Kihyun started to argue back.
"Pretty please, Kihyun ah. They are also offering to pay you too. So, you won't be doing it for free. Just one song," Minhyuk pleads.
"I don't know," he answers before turning the stove off.
"Don't be shy," Minhyuk says.
"Right now," Kihyun asks.
"Nope. He wanted you to sing after the dishes are served," Minhyuk replies.
"Mmm...fine," Kihyun sighs to which Minhyuk cheers and hugs the head chef. The other chefs in the room chuckled as they also overheard the conversation between the two.

Since the food was served, there wasn't much to do in the kitchen as the party's reservation is for two hours except for cleaning. I saw Kihyun walk out the kitchen looking really nervous like how one with stage fright would be when presenting something to a crowd. Taking the chance to clean the service station/expediting area, I watched Kihyun from the kitchen.
"Go-od aft-er-noon, lad-ies and ge-ntle-men. I'm the he-ad chef tha-t Minh-yuk was ta-lking a-bout who can sing," Kihyun says with his lisp more pronounce than usual.
"Good afternoon, Head Chef ssi. From what I heard from your friend, you are quite the singer," said Mr. Im Jaehyun, my dad's old time friend since college.
"Ah. You flatter me. I am not a great singer," Kihyun says without looking into the man's eyes.
"Hahaha. Nonsense. I am sure you will do just fine," Mr. Im chortles.
"Yes, sir. What sssong would you like me to sing," Kihyun stumbles over his words which was really cute if you asked me.
Mr. Im looked at the rest of his party and no one offered a suggestion so he turns around and says, "Up to you."
"I well.... have a song that I wrote some time ago. Would you like to hear it," Kihyun asks hesitantly. (A/N: Let's pretend that Kihyun wrote 'Lost in the Dream,' that it isn't a 7 person song, has no rap in it, and has no back up recording of his voice [plus the other members].)
"Oh. Your own song? Why not? It was an sudden request so you can sing whatever you want," the old man answers.
Kihyun nods before pulling out his phone from his pocket to play a music recording and warmed up his voice while looking away from the prying eyes.
"Whenever you're ready, my child," Mr Im says.
Kihyun takes a deep breath and was about to start, but he caught me looking at him. He blushes so much that his cheeks resembled the color of his hair a bit. Once Kihyun gathered himself and turned on the music recording, he started to sing.
"La la la la la La la la la la. When day breaks, you disappear every time. I pray every day that it is not a dream. When I fall asleep again so that you would be in my arms again. I know that it's a dream, but I can't escape it~," Kihyun sings while holding onto a wooden spoon as a mic with his eyes shut.
Even though the lyrics were sad and bittersweet, I couldn't help but feel the love that was hidden in it and his voice really struck a chord in me. I am in awe of how well he hit each note. The aura or force he has about him right now was incredible.
"Even if it is a fantasy, you're beautiful. Even if it's just a shadow, I want it. Every night, I search for you in the same dream. I want to stop, but I can't escape it. When the moon rises, it starts. The nights always repeat the same. Like I'm plunging, I fall deep into this penetrating deeply dream. Call me. You hold me. You~ I burn in this moment . Can't ever wake from this dream. Call me. You~ hold me even if it's a fantasy~," he continues to sing. The crowd in front of him were silent but each were into the song.
"I have expectations that I'll be okay after the night passes. Yeah~ When the moon falls asleep, I fall. As I approach, you become fainter. Hey~ In this deep night, I'm ruined endlessly/ I want to erase you but you keep getting bigger. It's dangerous. It's okay if I lose myself. Like I'm plunging, I fall deep into this penetrating deeply dream. Call me. You hold me. You~ I burn in this moment . Can't ever wake from this dream. Call me. You~ hold me even if it's a fantasy~," he continues to sing beautifully.
As I was distracted by his voice, I accidentally brushed the crumbs onto my shoes when I was cleaning up the counter. I mentally cursed and brushed them off before standing back up to see Kihyun belt out a few bars.
"Maybe this is happiness. The moment you left , I'm experiencing this fantasy. When I lost you, my everything...my regrets create a fantasy. It lures me in and makes me distant from you~ ," he sings and goes up a few octaves that was really amazing to hear. As I listened to him sing, I could help, but wonder why Kihyun was shy about singing for me. He clearly was a very talented singer. In fact, why didn't he become a professional singer instead of being a head chef at a fancy restaurant?
When I snapped out of my thoughts, I realized that I missed part of the song so I listened more attentively in order to not to miss a single note.
"Like I'm plunging, I fall deep into this deeply penetrating dream....call me, you hold me, you. I burn in this moment...Can't ever wake from this dream. Call you, hold me even if it is a fantasy. La la la la la La la la la la," he sings.
And then he looks into my eyes and sings, "Lost in the dream." I gasped as I noticed this and also released the breath that I did not know that I was holding onto.
