Hyunwoo
~kitchen~
After starting the fire to get the water boiling for hangover soup, I scrolled through the necessary ingredients and instructions to make some. "Let's see if I have all of the ingredients," I said mostly to myself.
*rummaging in the fridge and cabinets*
I definitely did have all of the necesscary ingredients but the vegetables were not in great condition but still edible and the meat wasn't quite defrosted. What could possible go wrong? When the water had started to bubble, I tossed in the shiitake mushrooms, pieces of kombu, green onions, and red pepper flakes.
~three minutes later~
I looked in the pot to see it bubbling even more, and took out the kombu before tossing in the Napa cabbage. But just then, I remembered that I didn't wash the ingredients yet. "Oh shit! What should I do?! Should I take them back out? Mmm... it should be fine," I thought. I looked back at the recipe and scrutinized the recipe when steam started to escape the pot. Quickly, I took out the now soft af Napa cabbage out into a bowl and let the broth simmer for a bit while I prepared the sauce.
As I was mixing garlic, doenjang, gochugaru, sesame oil, fish sauce, mirin and black pepper together in a small bowl, I glanced over at the hall feeling a bit anxious that I wouldn't be able to fix the soup in time. And just like that, I managed to spill some sesame oil onto my hand. I groaned inwardly, washed it off, and continued to mix the sauce together. Once I was done, I coat the meat with some of the sauce in another bowl and added the sauce to the cabbage.
*bubbling noises*
"Oh shit, I didn't turn down the fire. Ugh," I said before turning the fire down a bit and then preceded to scoop out the remaining vegetables in the broth. "Let's see what else," I mumbled while looking at the recipe again.
With the big pot that was already on the stove, I put in the meat and leftover raw white carrots in it and turned on the fire. After that, I added the broth and Napa cabbage.
~five minutes later~
*barfing sounds*
"Okay, I still got time to do this. Don't panic," I thought.
~fast forward the rest of the making of poorly done hangover soup~
*door opening*
Kihyun comes walking out of the bathroom with some steam still clinging to him looking fresh. But, how my clothes looked on him caught my attention. My shirt look like a dress on him and my shorts went past his knees. His hair was fluffed like dampened cotton candy. He look so...
"What are doing," he asks disrupting the train of thought I was having.
"Making some hangover soup."
"For me?"
"No. For me," I retorted with a small chuckle.
"...haha very funny," he says sarcastically. "Anyways, thanks."
"For what?"
"Don't ask when you already know the answer," he says before shaking his head a little in an attempt to dry his hair a bit. This movement low key reminded me of a puppy shaking off water after a shower. "What you are staring at," he huffs and blows stray strands of hair away from his eyes.
"Hmm, wouldn't you like to know," I said before turning my attention back to the soup.
He comes up from behind me and peers around me to look at what I was making. "Are you even sure you know what you are doing?"
"Yeah," I replied. Not really...
"Then, why is your phone showing a recipe for hangover soup," he asks with my phone in his hand and an eyebrow raised.
I snatched it back from him and said, "Well, you got me."
"Mhmm."
"Are you just going to stand there and watch me?"
"No way," he snorts and sits down at my dinning table.
After I thought the soup was done, I ladled some of it into a bowl, stuck a spoon in it, and put it in front of Kihyun who looked at it with disdain. Before I could say another word, he tries some.
"Ah~. That burns," he whines.
"Well, it did just come straight off the stove."
"Thanks for stating that, Captain Obvious."
"You're welcome."
"Did anyone ever told you that you have a poor sense of humor?"
"No."
"Psh."
"I swear."
"Okay," he says mockingly.
He scoops up some soup but this time blew on it to cool it down a bit before eating it. His nose scrunches a bit in response to the taste. He grimaces a bit but quickly stops and gives me a weary look.
"What?"
He shakes his head.
"What?!"
"Remind me to teach you how to make a good hangover soup when my hangover is over," he says before going into the kitchen to get a glass of water.
"Is it that bad," I asked myself and tried the soup to only quickly spit it back out onto a napkin.
Ew...
A/N: I got the recipe for hangover soup from this website: https://www.tastemade.com/videos/haejangguk-korean-hangover-soup. Please do keep in mind that it does not take such a short amount of time to make this soup as I have depicted above. =)
