I tugged at my tie as I started to feel short of breath. Today is our engagement party. I am not sure why I am nervous. It wasn't like anyone wasn't expecting it or someone would oppose to it. I guess my nerves are getting to me. Just the thought of having many people stare at me made me feel nervous. It is like public school all over again.
As I gripped onto the sink, I stared at myself in the mirror and bit my lip.
"If you keep doing that, you are going to make it bleed," a familiar voice says making me jump slightly.
"Bun Bun, you scared me," I laughed.
"...Ki Ki."
"Hmm?"
"Congrats on your engagement," he says with a small smile and enters one of the stalls.
"Thank you," I called after him. Shifting my gaze back to the mirror, I checked if I looked okay before exiting the bathroom into the event hall that we had rented out for the night.
Almost everyone was there including reporters that were given permission by us to be there. Hyunwoo spots me from the other side of the room and walks over to me. He interlocks our fingers together and squeezes. I nodded to signal that I was fine and nothing was wrong.
We went around to greet the guests. All of them congratulating us. When we got near our table, Mr. and Mrs. Son was chatting with my parents. After we sat down, we chatted for five minutes or so. Then, Mr. Son suddenly starts to clink his fork against his wine glass. Everyone quiets down and looks toward us.
"Good evening, everyone. It is my pleasure to welcome you all here to celebrate the engagement of Hyunwoo and Kihyun. For those of you that don't know me, I am Hyunwoo's father. Thank you all for coming here to share such a wonderful event together. It means so much to us parents that you all are here on a day that marks the beginning of a harmonious union," he says and then pauses for moment before continuing.
" Love..... Because of love, I am lucky to have my wife in my life as well as my son. I love my family more than anything. And because of love, you two are here after having declared your love in front of all of us. Never take love for granted and never forget how blessed you are to have that in your life. With love, so much more is possible. Congratulations to the happy couple. Cheers," Mr. Son smiles and holds up his glass.
"Cheers," everyone says including us before drinking some red wine.
