Stargazing

Black and blue,

White and gold.

Shimmering silver in the dark night sky.

A cool, summer breeze

Brushing wisps of hair across my face.

Green grass swaying in the wind,

Soft to the touch of my fingertips.

Golden flowers,

A shade darker in the black of the night.

Arms behind my head,

Elbows hitting yours,

We stargaze.

I would worry you were with someone else

When you weren't with me.

I felt your disappearance,

I knew when you were gone

Because my fire stopped burning.

Saying goodbye was the hardest.

Anticipation would burn my insides

Until it was too much to bear.

 I tried to move on,

Tried to get over the touch of your hair

And the warmth of your hand in mine.

But I couldn't leave you,

And you couldn't live without me.

Just like the stars in the sky,

You were always there.

When I saw you,

I felt a spark,

A tie,

A connection that I didn't understand

Until we said our first words

And knew we needed each other right then and there.

After waiting long hours,

Days,

Weeks,

And years,

You are with me,

In this field,

Stargazing.

Your breathing comes and goes in gentle puffs,

My smile grows wider every moment I glance at you.

I never thought I could feel this happy,

With all the things I had,

All the friends I grew with,

Something was missing...

And it was you.

Meeting you was the best thing I have ever done.

You won my heart

By smiling and laughing and cracking jokes.

Now I look forward to waking up,

Starting my day,

And going to see you.

In this field,

The world stops.

Nothing matters.

Nothing could drag me away from you.

In this field,

Stargazing,

I smile.

I count every star

As they twinkle in your eyes.

This is all I need,

To be with you,

In this field,

Just the two of us

Stargazing.
