Once upon a time,
There was a little girl that
Lived in the flower meadow
By the edge of the forest.
She would wake up early
To tend to the horses in the field.
She would pick flowers
And put them in a jar for her mother.
Once upon a time,
The little girl grew up.
She started to stop picking the flowers
And would frown as she
Brushed the horses' manes.
Once upon a time,
The little girl didn't see a sunrise.
Instead,
She saw only the night sky.
But it didn't matter to her
Because the stars no longer glimmered.
The little girl grew into a woman
And the world took her innocence from her.
She no longer was smiling every morning.
Instead, she was waiting
For night to fall so she could cry silently
And dream nightmares.
The woman did not believe in
Happily ever afters because
There were none left in her life.
Once upon a time,
There was no happy ending.
