If I had known
When I was younger
To speak up for yourself,
Tell someone when you're hurting,
I wonder where I would be now.
If I could have known,
I would have taught myself -
Or learned quicker -
That life is extremely hard,
And that you're going to
Want to do a lot of things
That you'll just have to wait to do.
I wish I had known that
Love is hard to keep fresh.
Like flowers,
Love blossoms and blooms,
Is watered and kept close,
Is so seductive,
But so surreal.
It wilts,
It dies,
And never comes back to life.
I wish I had known
How important it is
To tell someone you love them
Before it's too late.
If I could have known where I would be
At the end of the year,
I would have done things so much differently.
I would have asked for more help.
I would have spent more time
With different people
Instead of wasting my time
On fakers who would later betray me.
I wish I had known who would hurt me,
So I could get them out of my life
Before I felt the pain.
What I could have known...
Oh, what I could have known!
I would be much different,
I always knew that.
What I could have known
Could have been my downfall.
What I could have known
Could have destroyed me
Before I even said a word.
What I could have known
Is what has shaped me into me,
And I wouldn't trade that for anything.
