Y/n's POVThe tunnels are super dark.
Above me I can hear what sounds like quiet walking.Soon I'll be up there walking too.
I smile and run in the direction of the first quarter. It takes a really long time to get there to begin with, but now even longer because of all the patrolling Protectors. I'm not really sure how long it does take. All I know is that I did eventually get there.
In the distance my eyes catch a glimpse of home. First my eyes scan the area for any Protectors.
None.
Then, I throw my body forward and dash to the front door.
I'm completely out of breath from all the running and sprinting.
Carefully, I pull the piece of paper put of my pocket and stare at it.I'm really doing this.
I close my eyes and take in as much oxygen as my lungs allow.
The air is bitter.
My eyes reopen and I look back at the letter. I kiss it before leaning down and sliding it under the door.
After standing back up I start to run again; away from the quarters. Because I take a different route than when I went with Miss. Fischbach, it takes a linger to get there along with some trial and error.
Finally I see the opening in the distance. I smile and run even faster if that's possible.
A few feet from the edge I dig my heels into the concrete to stop myself.
"Crap." I mumble.
I lift up my foot to see it's lightly bleeding. At the moment I don't care all too much about that though. My injured feet carry me to the ledge where I stand, my toes hanging over.
The wind combs my hair as it makes it fly all around me and hug my face. It feels nice. The cold air on my heated face.
Nighttime was always my favorite. No one around to bother you. Silence. Calming darkness.
I snap myself out my mindless thoughts.
What she said was the sun isn't out anymore, but instead a less brighter and smaller version replaced it. The few flowers around me I pay no mind to. All I can think of is how I will encounter so many new things in the sk- above ground.
The end of the tunnels seems to be off a......cliff? I think that's what it's called. No other land is around me except the large body of water known as the ocean and the ground above me.I'll have to find a way to get up there.
I look at the giant....grass?...No, dirt! Dirt wall next to the end of the tunnel. Some branches stick out and rocks.
Maybe I can be a parkour master and climb.
My stupid idea causes a smirk to glide onto my features.
Turning to face the System, I cautiously reach out and grab onto the dirt wall. I find a rock with my left hand and pull into it to make sure it's stable enough to hold my body weight.
It is.
I then reach out my left leg and find another rock. Again, I test it before putting a huge amount of weight on it.
Now with the left side of my body on the wall, I close my eyes and take in a deep nervous breath.
"Three..."
I start a count down to prepare myself.
"Two...."
I open my eyes back up and find a place to grab at with my right hand.
"One!"
I then swing the right side of my body out of the tunnel and latch onto a branch.
My heart beats so fast as I think about the branch not being able to hold my weight.
I close my eyes again and grit my teeth in fear.
Nothing happens.
I open my eyes and sigh with relief.
"Let's do this." I say, determined.
I reach up and start to climb up the huge wall that could lead me to my appending doom at any point in time.
Finally, I reach for the ledge.
"Yes!"
As I grab onto it with my right hand the rock that my right foot is on crumbles beneath me.
I let out a screech as I feel my body drop down a bit.
The only thing keeping me from dying in this moment is my death grip onto the ledge.
If that rock would have crumbled a second earlier I would have fallen straight into the water. More than likely that would have resulted in my death.
Will all my strength I bring up my left hand and pull myself up onto the ground.
My heart races as I lay down in the very soft green stuff that seems to litter a lot of the ground up here. I'm breathing heavily as all my anxiety flows out of my body.
"That was close." I whisper.
The real sky starts to get brighter as the sun rises. The sky is a mixture of reds and oranges like they were when Miss. Fischbach brought me to see the flowers.I'm finally here.
In the sky.
Free.I lay there a bit longer to catch my breath and calm down from the near death experience.
When I get back onto my feet I turn away from the cliff and what I see amazes me.
There are tons of houses that look to be made out of wood and some concrete. All of them are huge compared to the small houses in the Systems.
Even the biggest houses down there don't compare to the size of the houses here.
There are tons of things that I've seen in the history book that I had, like trees. I also see roads, but they seem so much more thought out and a lot better than the ones the book showed. The sky looks so.....better than the Systems.
