| THIRTY-NINE |

Mei's POV

I sit in the barren room. My hands are cuffed to a metal bar on the metal table in front on me. The table itself is bolted to the ground.
I stare at the table, twiddling with my thumbs.

Nova better do what she has to do to save herself.

I know shes in the next room over.
Nova, my best friend.
We are from the sky.
We had to leave though.
It made me sad to go, but it had to be done.
I wasnt lying when I said some bad people were after us.
Some demon royal guards were after us in a way.

They didnt exactly know it was us that they were looking for though.

Nova's husband was killed by her demon owner when she was pregnant with Y/n.

Soon after that is when we left.

Mark was really young and we used a spell on him to make sure he didnt remember.

Mark's father.

I miss him.

Its hard to think that he's still up there.

He may have forgotten me and moved on. That probably isnt even a maybe. Its in their nature to move on quickly; especially his.

Mark's father was a kind man.

He loved me and I loved him.

He really loved Mark too.

My heart feels sore.

He needed to stay up there.

He couldnt come with us.

I hear movement from Nova's room.

The door in front of me then flies open.

There stands Game.

He has a smug look on his face and I know he has gotten the information he wanted.

"I guess you were wrong." He mocks me. "Nova was happy to comply."

I just stare at him.

"What? Too shocked to come up with a snarky response?" He asks, coming closer.

"Not at all," I say. "But i do know that she didnt tell you everything. She doesn't know everything." I lie.

I know she would never say who Mark's father was.

He glares at me.

"I'll give you one last chance to tell me." He says. "Who is Mark's father."

I lean forward.

"A wonderful man. He cleaned my owners house as I cooked." I say.

He shakes his head.

"I can tell that isnt true Mei. I know Mark isnt as normal as you make him out to be."

Leaning against the back of my chair once more I shrug.
