It had been 2 weeks since the events in Detroit and since Liv and Connor's faces had been displayed over the news. The news story featuring them was still being played, asking for Liv to reveal who she was. She was surprised that no one had called in and told them yet. She understood why Hank, Connor, and Noah hadn't, but what was stopping people like Gavin who don't like her from calling in and saying who she was?
"I thought freedom would mean people start leaving us alone," she said as she turned off the TV after seeing the news story again. She sat down on the couch beside Connor.
"It should. Maybe you could call in and tell them you don't want the story to be aired?" Connor suggested as he wrapped his arm around her.
"They want me to call in though, and the damage is already done. Calling in to a few news stations won't change the fact that millions of people have already seen it. It's all over the internet too."
"I'm sorry, Liv."
"You don't have to apologise, Connor. People will forget about it eventually. I'm just hoping that my dad didn't see it. I've worked so hard for years to get him to stay away from me, but thanks to all this, he could find me."
"Your father seemed to have vanished not long after you came to Detroit. It's hard to not leave any trail at all, but he seems to have done so. I don't think he would risk coming out of hiding to find you, but regardless, I would do anything to protect you."
"I know that you would, Connor, and that's what scares me. You would risk your life for me, you have before, but CyberLife won't replace you like they did before. You've got to be more careful, I don't want to lose you," she turned to him.
"You're not going to, Liv. You can't get rid of me that easily," he winked, and placed a kiss on her forehead. She placed her face against his chest, looking at his jacket.
"Why don't we go out today? We can go get you some clothes, since you don't have to wear the uniform anymore," she said.
"That would be nice."
----------
"What do you want to wear?" Liv asked as they browsed the racks of clothes in the store.
"I don't know, it's not something I've ever really cared about. What do you think would suit me best?"
"You're gonna be the one wearing it, Connor, not me. Just pick some stuff out you like," she said, "The whole point of this is to let you start doing what you want."
Connor still had a hard time remembering that he could make his own decisions. He started picking up a few shirts and pants. A couple outfits that were similar to what he usually wore, but most were more casual plain t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, and jeans.
"Alright, you wanna go try them on?" Liv asked when Connor walked to her with the pile of clothes in his arms.
"No, all of this will fit me," Connor said, knowing exactly his size in everything.
"Ok," Liv said. The two went up to the register and paid for his clothes. The cashier put it all into a few plastic bags, and Connor and Liv carried them out of the store.
"You'll probably just need another pair of shoes and maybe a few pairs of socks. We could probably get all of that over there," Liv said, pointing at the shoe store a few stores down.
They walked down the mall to the large shoe store. They weren't there long before Connor had picked out a pair of black and white sneakers and a pack of white socks. He didn't waste much time in the store. Connor took the items to the counter and paid for them.
"Well, since you took only 20 minutes to pick out an entire new wardrobe, let's just roam around the stores? Maybe you'll see something else you like," Liv suggested, and Connor nodded in agreement.
They walked around the wall, looking for a store that sparked either one's interest. So far none had. Liv walked a few steps ahead of Connor, not really focusing on him for a moment.
She turned around, about to ask if Connor wanted to leave. Neither were interested in anything here, so she didn't see the point in staying. They were about to leave when someone approached them.
"Hey, you two are that human android couple, aren't you?" a teenage girl asked.
"No!"
"Yeah you are, I've seen you all over the internet! You guys are soooo cute together!"
"You've got the wrong people, sorry," Liv turned to Connor, "Let's go."
"Wait, can I get a picture with you two? My friends would be, like, so jealous! They all think you're really hot," the teenager said to Connor.
"We have to leave," Liv grabbed Connor's arm and dragged him away as the girl started taking pictures of them anyway. She put up the hood on her Detriot Police hoodie, hoping not to get recognized anymore. They made their way to Liv's car and got inside. She entered in the address of her apartment, and sat back with a sigh. She put her hood back down.
"People act like were fucking celebrities," Liv said as the car began to drive away.
