The next day, back in Detroit.
"One month, huh," Liv said as she walked down the sidewalk, Connor by her side, "It still seems so unreal."
"Yes, it does."
"So much has happened. A year ago, if you had told me everything that had happened in the past few months, I would've thought you were crazy," she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "I wouldn't change any of it for the world though."
"Neither would I," Connor felt a shiver down his spine, the sort you got when it feels like someone is staring at you. He blamed it on the cold.
"Are you going to tell me where we're going yet?" Liv asked and smiled.
"No."
"The last surprise date we went on didn't go very well, Con," she laughed.
"I also wasn't the one planning the last surprise date we went on though. Trust me, you're going to love it," Connor said, "And you got shot hours after the date ended; the two events aren't correlated."
"I would've been fine staying home, you know that."
"You're always staying home."
"Hey! I was shot like a month ago, I deserve some rest."
"Excuses..." Connor joked, and smiled.
"I never told you this, but you smile really weirdly. Sometimes you do it right, but you usually pull your lips back instead of up," she said and laughed.
"I don't think I understand what you mean."
"This is how you smile, you pull your lips up a little. See?" She said and smiled, "But you pull your lips back, and it makes you look like you're forcing yourself to smile."
She demonstrated. The corners of Liv's lips pulled back, making a sort of disgusted look on her face. He laughed, putting a real smile on his face.
"That's really what I look like?"
"Only when you're trying too hard to smile. Like right now, you're not thinking about it, and you look normal. Sometimes you just overthink things that aren't that hard."
"Technically, you have to think about every-" he started to say.
"That's what I mean! You think too much. You don't have to think about everything, no matter what the facts say."
"I guess you're right."
"When am I not?" she said jokingly.
"We're here," Connor said as they stepped in front of the door to a roller skating rink. Liv already felt embarrassed.
"I literally have two left feet, Connor. And I don't even know how to roller skate!"
"Neither do I."
"Yeah, but you can like look it up and instantly be amazing at it," she said.
"Just don't overthink it, Liv," he smiled.
"Fine, but only because you're using my advice against me."
-----------
"I've got you, Liv, just go forward a little," Connor said, holding on to her hands, and she gripped on to him tightly.
"I don't know why, but I can't. Like I can't get my legs to do that," she laughed, looking down at her feet that were going backwards and forwards just barely. Finally she did it, but started to fall on top of him, clinging to his shirt as she tried not to fall flat on the floor. She just laughed and tried to get back up, but slipped again. Connor helped her stand up straight again.
