The last few days had been difficult. No one in the apartment could disagree. Connor was trying his best to make things work, but everything kept failing. Liv had made him promise to try to get along with Conan, but it didn't seem to be working Conan didn't say much, and when he did he was usually asking if he could help with anything. It seemed impossible to keep a conversation with him.
Liv had told Fowler that she wanted to continue working at the DPD. He was a bit hesitant at first, for obvious reasons, but finally agreed to it. After Liam and Alexander were arrested and proven guilty, he decided to let her back. She'd be starting back again soon.
"Have you seen Conan, today?" Liv asked.
"He just went out the door."
"He did? I guess I didn't notice," she said, slowly getting up to go after Conan.
"No, stay here. I'll go get him in a minute. I think it would be best to give him a minute to himself anyway."
They had been having issues with him running off lately. It still wasn't entire safe for him to parade the streets, as the Detroit still had considered him to be wanted. He didn't seem to care though, because something always drew him out of the apartment every day, and he wouldn't come back until one of them brought him home.
Connor didn't see the point in constantly asking him to stay put, but he looked for him everyday for Liv. She didn't want anything bad to happen to him, and neither did Connor, but he didn't see the point in making him stay if he obviously didn't want to.
"Thanks," Liv said and coughed.
"You're really pale," Connor pointed out.
"No shit."
"I mean more than usual." he put his hand against her forehead. Her skin had the faintest blue tint to it, it was so porcelain."You're temperature is normal, but you seem like you're sick."
"Once again, no," she stopped to cough several times, "shit. It's probably just a bad cold."
"I figured you wouldn't be susceptible to physical illnesses anymore."
"Apparently I am," Liv said, "You should probably go after Conan." Connor nodded and left the apartment. Olivia curled up tighter in the blanket and tried to ignore the terrible headache she had.
Conan was right outside the apartment, surprisingly. Usually when he did this Connor would have to run after him down the sidewalk.
"Hey, Connor."
"What's wrong, Conan? Why'd you come out here?" Connor asked.
"I don't know. I just- I needed a second to think about everything."
"About?"
"You really want to know?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Conan assumed that Connor would not actually care about his thoughts.
"Yeah, I do."
"I think I want to leave," Conan said, "I'm tired of feeling guilty and useless, and that's all I am when I'm here. Even if I'm arrested, I don't think I would care. I just need something different."
"Okay," Connor said, and turned to go back inside.
"Just 'okay'?"
"Yeah, just okay," Connor said, "You don't have to do what people say anymore, so do whatever you want. I won't keep you here if you don't want to stay. Find out who you want to be."
"In that case, I will."
"Are you going to say goodbye to Liv?" Connor asked.
"No, just tell her that you couldn't find me."
"Goodbye," Connor said.
"Bye, Connor."
He watched Conan push through a crowd of people walking on the sidewalk until he was far out of view. Connor had to admit that he'd probably miss him, even if he didn't know him long, he just wasn't sure what to tell Liv. A few minutes later, he went back upstairs to their apartment, just so she wouldn't worry about him being gone so long. He didn't do what Conan asks, he wouldn't lie to her.
"I think he just wants to find out who he is," Connor explained, "So I let him."
"He's going to end up in jail."
"Or maybe he won't, but he just wants his own life. We can't just keep him locked up here."
"You're right," she said, leaning her head against his shoulder. He turned on a movie, and they sat in silence for a while; it was peaceful. Connor would miss Conan, but he was glad to have this alone time with Liv back again.
