as i walk in, i take out my schedule for school. i look at it and look for my classes and the room numbers.

"what do you have for first?" joey asked looking at my schedule. he laughed when he saw my name. "you're last name is Cross?"

i look up at him and slap his arm. "Don't cross the line, joey."

he laughed, "woah." he put his arms up in defense. "using your last name as a pun. i like it, Cross."

i playfully roll my eyes and look back down at my schedule. "i have mrs. Smith for first. what about you?"

"i don't have her." he said shaking his head. "who do you have for second?"

i look at it again. "mr. skies." i laughed at the name because it remind me of lil skies.

he smiled, "then i'll guess i'll see you in second period." he said as we parted ways, "See you later, Cross."

"Don't Cross me! " i look up and point to the ceiling, "Shout out to Jesus."

joey laughed at my joke and pointed at me, "i like that!" he yelled but then turning around and walking away.

i laughed and then walked into the class room to see the teacher at her desk. i walk up to her and stand by her, "excuse me." i said, trying to get her attention.

she looked up from doing something on her paper and put on her glasses . "why hello. how may i help you."

i point to her name on my schedule, "um, i have you for first period."

she smiled and snapped her fingers, "you're anna cross?"

i nodded. she clapped her hands, "great!" she yelled kind of loudly, also making some heads turn.

she stood up and put her hand on my shoulder and looking out to the class, no no no no no. "Class!"

she made all of the heads turn and look at me. i already hate this, i can feel my one lung scrunch up as my heart beats 1 million times a second.

"we have a new student today." she said referring to me. my palms get sweaty as i look around the class. "so miss cross, tell us a little you."

i look at her and then look back at the class. i rub my hands against my jeans and tighten the grip on my schedule.

my social anxiety kicks in again as i begin to speak. i take a deep breath and swallow hard before i do. "well." i paused and clear my throat. "my name is anna and i'm from san francisco."

i look back at the teacher and she smiles, "that's a long way, mrs. cross." you dont say mr. sMiTh.

she looks around the room for a empty seat, "why don't you go sit next to jacob." she pointed to jacob, who i already knew.

i smiled at him and he smiles back. i walked across the room to him, since he sits in the very back.

i place my book bag down and get out a note book. jacob nudged my shoulder, "how's your first day so far?"

i place the notebook on my desk and open it up and shrug. "okay i guess. i don't like Mrs. Smith." i mocked her name. "she made me talk in front of the whole damn class." i whisper in a southern accent.

jacob laughed, "just wait until you have her longer." he said. "if she can't find her glasses, she's blind. she'll go in the hallways asking other teachers if they seen her glasses."

i giggled and reached in my bag again to look for a pencil. "damnit." i said to myself. i get back up and look at jacob, "do you have a pencil?" i asked.

he reached in his bag and got our two pencils. "i have two." he said.

i take both of the pencils from his hand, "i'll take both because i don't trust myself with one."

he laughed and tried to change the subject. "so, are you okay?" he asked, referring to when i fainted.

i nodded, "yeah." i said, "i guess i just exercised to much."

he furrowed his eyebrows, "what?"

"oh." i said, realizing that he doesn't know about my lungs, "never mind. i'll tell you later." more like some day.

he nods and faces the front of the room when the teacher announced the class was starting.
