anna + joey

everyone walked out of the court room after a couple of hours. joeys heart was beating fast. it was like it was trying to burst out of his chest and run away.

anna started to bounce her leg up and down, something she does when she's nervous. even though she wanted to hear the news, she didn't.

joey saw his dad walk out of the room. his dad smirked at him, making joey hate him even more.

all four of the siblings were confused because they didn't see their mom. bella and scott didn't even bother looking at their dad.

"mom?" scott says, looking into the court room.

she was at the table looking down. her hands were in her hair, she didn't look good.

bella, sophia, scott, joey, and anna all went up to jenna and stood in front of her.

"what happened?" asked sophia with a faintly voice.

jenna didn't answer nor look up at the kids. both anna and joey got scared, sophia too.

"mom what happened?" bella says, putting her hand on her mom's shoulder.

jenna looked up at all of them. she couldn't say what was supposed to come out of her mouth next, but she had too.

she saw all of the concern faces of her children, and anna. she loved anna so much, she could tell how she changed joey over the passed 10 months.

she knew that the news would crush her, especially joey.

she took a deep breath and cleared her throat. "i'm so sorry." she whispered. tears were rising up in her eyes again. "i lost."

anna couldn't believe it. it's like she was just struck by lightening, but only it's just with heartbreak.

sophia started to cry before bella took her into her arms.

anna looked at joey, his face was blank. it was like he was trying to contain and process what's happening.

"soph and joey have to leave friday." jenna says, "for a month"

not looking up at jenna, joey says, "why did you lose, mom?"

jenna sighed, "because the judge says that it would be a good idea, then you get to pick."

joey ran his hand through his hair, something he does when he's upset.

anna offered to take joeys hand but he pulled away. she looked at sophia, crying in bella's arms.

she went up to sophia and hugged her, "it's going to be okay, okay?" says anna.

sophia rubbed her eyes and hugged anna tight around the torso. anna felt sad and she wanted to cry, but not in front of joeys whole family

soon, sophia pulled away and they all stood there in silence.

"this is fucking bullshit!" joey says, storming out of the the court room.

anna ran to him and followed behind him. joey went to his car and shut the door. anna got in with him.

he laid his head on the steering wheel. he couldn't believe that he had to leave, especially the love of his life.

he grew up in new york, why leave?

joey couldn't hold back the tears anymore, it's like they were meant to be let out.

tears went down his cheeks as his eyes began to become red. anna put her arms around him and rubbed his back.

soon before they both knew it, they were both crying. anna and joey were both scared.

"i can't live without you anna." joey cried, "i love you so fucking much."

anna was to the point where she couldnt breath out of her nose. "trust me joey, i love you with all my heart."

eventually they both stopped crying. joey and anna put their seats down in the car and laid there. anna laid her head on joeys chest in silence.

what if joey forgets about me? what if he leaves and wants to stay? what if we have to break up? all of these questions ran through anna's mind. it's all she could really hear at this point.

joey was numb inside and out. he was feeling a lot of things at once that he couldn't feel anything at all.

"what now?" asked anna. joey didn't answer, it's like he couldn't speak.

"do we have to break up now?" asked anna again.

joey sat up in the seat. "what the hell? anna no. why would you say that?"

anna looked down, "i just thought we would because we wouldn't be together for a month."

he chuckled and shook his head, "you're delusional."

anna scoffed, "i'm delusional?"

joey shook his head, "yes you are. why the hell would you think we should break up." he says, putting the seat back up and starting up the car.

"what are you doing?" asked anna as she put her seat back up too.

"i might as well get to packing now." he says, starting to drive.

"you're just gonna leave like that? you're not gonna protest or anything?" asked anna.

"nope." he says, keeping his eyes on the road.

"why?"

"well what do you want me to do anna? huh? there's nothing i can do." joey said.

"but you can't just le-" joey cut anna off with anger.

"i have no fucking choice! and you're the one who thinks we should break up!" joey yelled.

"well maybe we should break up!" anna yelled at him.

"maybe we should then." joey says, ending the conversation.

it was silent after their argument. both anna and joey were too angry to speak, especially at each other.

soon, joey pulled up to anna's house. "get out." joey says.

"what?" anna asked.

"i said get out." joey says, looking down.

"no i'm not gonna get out of your car." anna told him.

"get out of my car anna." joey says, running his hands through his hair again.

"so this is it? we're done now?" asked anna.

"yeah." joey says with no hesitation.

anger took over anna with joeys words. "you know what? fuck you joey." anna says, taking off her promise ring and throwing it at him.

she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. "we're over, and this time we're never getting back together." she says, not forgetting to slam the car door.
