The color of the work uniform for One For All was ridiculous. It was red, blue, yellow and very ugly. It had been a week since her interview and, thankfully, the manager of the cafe had been very happy with her responses that he told her she could start as soon as she finished all the pre required training and online paperwork.
Smoothing out the blue skirt after she tucked in the red polo shirt, Y/N took a deep breath as she fixed her name tag. She had braided back her hair so it wouldn't get in the way when she was working.
"Y/N, are you ready?"
Y/N closed her locker as she pushed in her school bag and purse. She had been in the back room changing. She turned back and smiled at her manager.
"Yes, Mr. Toshinori. I'm coming." She walked out towards the front of the cafe.
"Okay," he nodded as he straightened his own name tag. "Your job is to simply take the customers orders and bring them to me so I can make it for them." He pointed at an area of tables on the farther end of the store. It was on the darker side of the cafe where the main lights weren't as bright and had a more muted lighting caused by the dangling lights above the booths. "That will be your side for today."
Y/N knew One For All was one of the more high top cafes in the area since it was closer to the city, but close enough for the students from UA to hang out at. It was rather popular, but she'd never expect it to be breathtakingly beautiful on the inside.
It wasn't just the decor, the colors or the Art—it was the atmosphere the whole café embodied. Walking in she hadn't been hit that strongly, but as she waited for them to open, she realized the café radiated comfort and serenity.
Throughout the room, small fish tanks decorated every few corners and there was a small fountain in the center. She'd read about cafes like this one before, they were more old Japanese styles cafes.
Y/N already loved the place. Albeit, the uniforms needed some work. She took a mental note to let Mr. Toshinori in on some of the ideas she'd had in mind later on, when she was a regular worker rather than a newbie.
"There are five areas in the café, as you remember from your training. There is one waitress per section. You take section B today." Mr. Toshinori continued, nodding his head towards the B section. "The others are already at their spots, but you'll be shadowing Kaminari today. He'll show you the ropes," he sighed as he turned towards the door that lead to the lockers and watched as a boy with blonde hair run towards them. "That is, if he's ever on time."
"Sorry!" The boy—Kaminari, Y/N presumed—panted as he came to a stop in front of them. He was wearing a similar outfit as Y/N's, and his hair had a black lightning design on them. She couldn't help but find it a bit particular, yet intriguing. "The bus was running late."
"Was it the bus? Or you?" Mr. Toshinori raised his eyebrows at Kaminari accusingly. Kaminari simply gave him a sheepish grin. "Anyways," he continued. "This is Y/N. It's her official first day. She's going to shadow you and help you in anyway she can."
"Really?" Kaminari turned his bright yellow eyes at Y/N and smiled at her. "I thought you looked familiar! You did some training during the week, right? I'm Danki Kaminari, nice to meet you!"
"I'm Y/F/N Y/L/N," Y/N smiled back at him. "But you can just call me Y/N."
"Cool," he said. "You can call me Danki then."
"Okay," she said, but she knew she'd probably call him Kaminari either way.
After the incident with Midoriya outside of her calculus lecture, she'd done her research and found out why people called each other a lot by their last name. Calling a stranger by their first name was rude—she now knew why Shouto had been so appalled when she'd called him by his first name the day after the incident. Still, he'd called her by her first name too when she'd been walking down the stairs.
The thought reminded her that Shouto didn't sit by her anymore. He'd made sure to sit on the other side of the room during their next calculus lecture. Y/N found it a bit overboard, but there wasn't anything she could do. The look in his eyes told her he wasn't joking around and she'd probably should keep her distance for a while.
"Anyways," Kaminari brought her back from her thoughts as they walked over to their designated areas. Mr. Toshinori had excused himself after saying he would check up on her later. "We have to make sure to always carry our notepads around and to always smile."
"Always smile?" Y/N scrunched her eyebrows at the specific requirement.
"Yeah," Kaminari shrugged. "I know it should be like common sense, but old man Toshinori takes it seriously. He says a smile can change the aspect of your whole day."
Y/N nodded. "I guess I see where he's coming from."
Kaminari grabbed a black apron from a cabinet, and then tossed another one to Y/N. "We're about to open. It's Saturday, so it's going to be quite busy."
Busy was an understatement. The traffic in the café was non-stop. Y/N found herself floundering a lot of times—not being sure on what to do. If it hadn't been for Kaminari being an expert at his job and explaining things very clearly, she'd be completely lost.
She'd had her good amount of part time jobs when she was younger and lived in the states, but working in a new whole different country had caught her much more off guard than she thought she'd be.
Everything was new for her. The etiquette, the people, the currency—for a second she found herself wondering why she was even trying. She felt like she was drowning in her own misery and dereliction. But the thought of spending one more evening with Chisaki made her skin crawl.
Instead, Y/N took a deep breath and tried something Mr. Toshinori had mentioned to her when he'd spotted her earlier.
"Take a deep breath," she said to herself, quoting her manager as she prepared to walk over to a new booth—Kaminari had given her the green light to start trying to take customers' orders on her own. "And just smile."
At first, for a split second, it felt like everything would be okay and that she'd make it through her first day. Her lips were turned upwards and she felt herself calming down—the anxiety inside of her starting slip away. She was smart; she'd been in tougher situations before. She could do it! At least, that's what she thought until she heard a familiar voice call out to her.
"Y/N!"
The smile on her lips dropped as she saw a very familiar green haired and green doe eyed boy walk into the caté and make his way towards her. He was smiling and waving at her, but she wasn't worried about him. No, not at all. She was more worried about the person walking in behind him.
"Hey, Todoroki-kun," Midoriya turned towards the red and white haired boy as they approached her. "I didn't know Y/N worked here! Did you?"
"No," Shouto said as he locked his icy eyes on her. "I didn't."
