"Why did you chase after me to give me back a pencil?"

Y/N tried not to choke on her own spit as Shouto slid into the seat beside her and actually spoke to her. She'd imagine he would've changed seats to stay as far away from her. All their runs in with one another had not been that great.

"I just thought you'd need it," Y/N answered quickly.

Shouto analyzed her with his gaze. "I had more pencils."

"Really?" Y/N raised her eyebrows slightly as she remembered seeing the worn out pencil yesterday and the thoughts that had been running through her head. "I mean, I thought you didn't, but most of all: that pencil looks special."

"Special?" Shouto narrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he heard her answer.

Y/N pointed at the pencil that laid on top of Shouto's desk. "Yeah," she said softly. "It looks like it's been through a lot. The color is faded, but the eraser seems new. I can tell you've had it for a while, but you've taken good care of it. It's got to be special."

"A pencil can't be special," Shouto refuted back.

Y/N blinked. "Then why have you kept it all this time?"

Shouto looked dumbfounded for a second, but easily went back to his usual demeanor.

"Whatever. Just don't speak to me anymore." He turned to stare at Mr. Aizawa as the professor chugged an energy drink back.

Y/N sighed inwardly as she opened her notebook. She'd never imagine Shouto Todoroki would be so...difficult. Still, glancing at him from the corner of her eye as he tapped his pencil, she couldn't help but be intrigued.

Class was over faster than Y/N had imagined. Looking down at her open page, it was filled with scribbles and small drawings. She hadn't taken any notes. Mr. Aizawa had been going over stuff she had already taught herself when she had been 'homeschooled.' Her mind had drifted off during the lecture instead. The night prior, she'd gotten a call from one of the places she'd applied to work.

It was a small café only twenty minutes away from both UA and her apartment. She could easily take the bus from her home and from school. She had an interview later on in the day, but she could already feel the anxiety starting to creep up on her. The name of the café was One For All. The name was a bit amusing, but if she played her cards right, it would be her new escape.

Walking out of the classroom, she was surprised to see a familiar face making their way down the hall. Well, sort of. She'd seen him twice with Shouto, but Y/N didn't think he knew her.

"Oh!" The boy with green hair and freckles gasped as he stopped in front of her. "You're the girl from yesterday!"

"Ah, yes." Y/N's face started flushing at the memory. She extended her hand at him. "I'm Y/N"

The boy gave her a funny look at first, but then gladly accepted her handshake. "I'm Izuku Midoriya."

Y/N felt her whole body relax as he grinned at her. His smile was like a ray of sunshine. It warmed and melted her: combined with those big green eyes of his, she couldn't help but immediately feel comfortable with him.

"Is it okay for me to call you by your first name though?" He was giving her a questioning look.

"Yes," Y/N smiled back a bit confused by his question. "Is something wrong with that?"

That seemed to make him blush. "N-no! I just mean, everyone calls me Midoriya or Deku and I..."

He continued blabbing on, but then remembered something she had read off one of her Japanese culture study textbooks she'd bought.

"Is Midoriya-kun okay?" Y/N inquired softly.

Mydoria stopped bubbling and nodded. Y/N smiled at him. "It's nice to meet you."

"Same here." he reciprocated. "Thanks for getting Todoroki-kun's pencil back. He might not show it, but he has a knack for becoming attached to things. He's had that pencil forever."

"Todoroki-kun?" Y/N turned her head to the side in confusion. "Why do you call him that? Do you call each other by your last names?"

Midoriya blinked at her, but before he could answer, a familiar smooth voice called out:

"Midoriya! Sorry to keep you waiting..." Shouto stopped speaking when he saw Y/N standing beside Midoriya. His eyes narrowed and she felt a shiver of something run through her body.

"Todoroki-kun!" Midoriya walked over towards his friend—a smile on his lips. "I was just introducing myself to Y/N."

"I can see that," Shouto said, but the way his eyes cut into her soul, Y/N knew he had more to say, but didn't say them out of courtesy for Midoriya.

"Sorry," Y/N said as she scratched the back of her head chidesly. "I bumped into him and he recognized me from yesterday. I should get going though; it was nice meeting you Midoriya-kun." Y/N glanced at Shouto, but his face was unreadable. Why did he look so angry? He didn't own his friends. She could speak to them, right?

She as hell wasn't about to stay and find out.

"Hope to see you around, Y/N." Midoriya said.

Y/N smiled softly at the green haired boy, making sure to avoid eye contact with Shouto, and waved goodbye as she walked towards the stairs. For some odd reason, as she was walking down the stairs, something in her chest told her it was best to stay away from Shouto's friends: he didn't seem to happy with her for speaking with Midoriya.

"Y/N."

She turned at the sound of a very familiar voice and approaching footsteps. Shouto walked down the last few steps on the stairs to match where she had been standing.

His eyes were dark and his hands were in his pockets. He leaned close to her for a split second.

"Don't try to get close to me, or my friends. I'm only telling you once."

Y/N watched as he walked back up the stairs. This warning, it had been different from the one up on the roof or the ones in the classroom. This one seemed more serious and the 'or else' lingered to be said. He was being serious this time around. His eyes had been terrifyingly cold.

The shiver she had felt earlier had become more prominent as she realized that Shouto was a force that shouldn't be reckoned with. Yet, deep inside her, something told her she needed to keep going after him.
