Y/N heard the footsteps before she saw them. The rain had turned from a soft drizzle to a hard pelting storm. She couldn't feel her fingers, and her breaths were coming out in white puffs. She tried her best to shield Uraraka, but Y/N didn't have any strength in her.
Earlier, she'd grabbed onto both hers and Uraraka's purse and had taken out all the cash they both had and had slipped it down a drain that was a few feet from them. She needed to make it seem like they'd been mugged. Tricking the others into believing her would be easy, but Shouto was a whole other issue. He was keen, smart and knew there was someone out for her head.
She'd hidden the gun behind piles of trash at a corner. She'd have to come for it later. If Shouto spotted it, her façade would be over.
The footsteps were increasing in proximity. For a second, she felt the monster of fear creep behind her as she realized there was a chance that it could've been Magne with back up, or her other buddy Mustard, but when Y/N saw the familiar locks of mismatched hair, stern eyes, and broad shoulders, she knew she was safe.
"Y/N." Shouto appeared from one of the ends of the alley. His eyes searched until he found her, but they widened when he took in her state. She was bleeding and she was pretty sure her face was a new shade of dark purple. He rushed to her side.
"Are you okay?" Shouto's eyes roamed her body as he scanned her injuries. His hair was matted down by the rain, and his shirt was soaked through. He glanced at Uraraka. "What happened to Uraraka-san?"
"She got hit in the back of the head," Y/N informed him.
"In the back of the head?" Shouto leaned forward to take a look at Uraraka. "How—"
"Uraraka-san! Y/N!"
Shouto was cut off as a familiar green haired boy ran into the scene as well. Midoriya's eyes were frantically searching the area.
"What the hell?" Kaminari looked like a drowned puppy as he ran in behind Midoriya. He was breathing hard, and holding on to his side. "I hate running."
Midoriya's eyes met Y/N's and they filled with worry, but then they trailed off to where Uraraka was laying down and they became unreadable.
"Uraraka-san!" He rushed to the brunettes side, Kaminari close behind.
"Uraraka-san.Y/N what happened?" Midoriya was examining Uraraka's face. Two fingers on her wrist to feel her pulse. "You guys were only gone for a few minutes."
"We were mugged," Y/N told him, sticking to her story. She could feel Shouto's eyes on her, but she was too tired to decrypt his gaze. "Uraraka was hit in the back of the head."
"Back of the head?" Midoriya's mouth was clenched. "With what? Did you see the mugger?" His eyes were steely on hers. "How did you end up in this alley?"
Y/N veered back. Midoriya's intense gaze had taken her by surprise. "I was walking and I ended here. Uraraka, she followed me here and—" Y/N winced when her lip got in the way and started bleeding again.
"Your lip," Shouto brought a handkerchief to her mouth. She flinched in pain. "Keep pressure on it." Shouto turned to Midoriya. "We should get them medical attention before we ask any more questions."
There was a silent pause where the two boys just stared at each other. It felt like a veil of tension had been set between them, and any slight movement could set them off, but alas Midoriya nodded and went back to examining Uraraka.
