"The key, mom. Where's the key?"
"I don't remember. Let me help you. She must be heavy."
"No. It's okay. I have her. We need to hurry up."
Flashes of bright light, the smell of rubbing alcohol and over the counter medicine—where was she? Her body was too heavy to move. Her eyes would flutter and close.
She heard the sound of thumping feet, a thud, and a manly scream, followed by a grunt in struggle. Her cheek was cold. Why did she feel like she was floating on air?
"Who the hell is it? I'm armed!"
"We were sent by Y/N, please open the door. She's been badly injured!" It sounded like Shouto, but it was like a soft murmur in her ear, so she wasn't sure.
"Why should we believe you?"
"She gave us a key! We simply lost it on the way here." Was that Rei? "You have to believe us!"
There was a pause.
"That voice? It couldn't be?"
"What are you doing? Don't open the door Fuyumi!" There was struggling and rummaging.
"Fuyumi?" It really was Shouto. She could feel the coolness of his hands on the small part of exposed skin on her back.
"Oh, my god," Rei gasped in disbelief. "She really did find them for me." Louder, "Fuyumi? Natsuo? It's mom."
"No," Natsuo's voice was deep. "We won't be tricked."
"Natsuo," Shouto's voice shook. "It's Shouto."
She heard the sound of the door being swung open, and felt the cool air rush against her face.
"Don't open the damn door—!" Natsuo choked on his last words.
"Mom! It's really Mom!" Fuyumi cried.
"How are you here?" Natsuo cried. "How—? Where?"
Y/N heard sobs, she felt water trickle on to her skin—she wondered when it had started raining. She tried wiping her cheeks dry, but she couldn't move, she felt an immense pain when she tried to take deep breaths. She let out a moan of pain—it was the only thing she was able to muster.
"We can talk about it later," Shouto told him. "She has a lot of questions to answer, but we need to save her life first."
"Shit," Natsuo cursed. "What happened to her?"
"She was shot," Shouto informed him. "Mom's already given her shoulder wound first aid treatment, but she keeps getting paler and paler each second. We don't know what's wrong."
She felt a warm hand against her forehead. Fuyumi hummed in worry. "She's burning up even in this frigid night."
"We don't know what's wrong," Rei continued. "We've patched her up, but she only seems to get worse."
"Shit," Natsuo uttered. "Come inside. Hurry up. I think I know what's wrong with her."
She felt it again, like she was on a cloud and she was being dragged across the sky—fearing that at any moment it would disappear and she would plummet to her death.
She heard the lock of the door, followed by more footsteps. Suddenly, the fluffy and weightless cloud was gone and she was laying in a field of cotton instead, surrounded by the smell of flowers and...strawberries?
