Cherry | 9 | Blossoms

🌸

The soft, cool breeze of autumn felt refreshing against Y/N's cheeks as she sat at one of the picnic tables UA had out in the farther sides of campus—closer to the cherry blossom trees. Even though they weren't in bloom, the sound of wind rushing through the branches made Y/N feel congenial and secure. Like she was stopped in time, and nothing else mattered but the sound of the rustling branches.

She didn't even care that her lunch was probably going cold, or that her fingers had gone numb from the lack of heat as she wrote down in one of her daily journals. Her cheeks also felt like they needed to be warmed, and everytime she yawned small white puffs left her mouth. It wasn't winter just yet, but it was in that middle stage where she had to wear a cozy sweater in order to sit outside.

"Y/N!"

Y/N turned and her mouth opened slightly in shock as she saw a few familiar figures making their way to her. Uraraka was waving her arm at her—a wide smile graced her lips. Her cheeks were pink—they matched her sweater and scarf.

Midoriya was beside her in a light green sweater and a smile that mirrored Uraraka's—maybe even surpassed hers. He started walking a little faster towards Y/N's direction.

Beside the two, was a guy she'd seen maybe once or twice with them before. He was looking confusingly at Uraraka's and Midoriya's excitement as they walked down a smaller hill. Y/N couldn't exactly tell, but she was sure she saw a full out suit under his large navy coat. He started scolding Midoriya as the green haired boy started running down the hill.

Still, everyone became a blur to Y/N as she was captivated by those enthralling mismatched eyes she'd evaded earlier in class that day. Shouto looked statuesque as ever in a dark jacket and black jeans. His hands were in his pockets as he followed his friends down to the picnic tables.

"Y/N! Are you having lunch? Do you mind if we join you?" Midoriya was the first to reach her.

Y/N nodded shyly with a soft blush on her cheeks. As everyone took a seat, she took it as her chance to swap out her journal to one of her notebooks from her biology class. Her journal carried her college and outside life—she couldn't let it simply lay around where people could have access to it.

"We saw you from over the hills and thought we'd join you for lunch!" Uraraka took out a bento box from her backpack.

"I don't think we've been properly introduced," the boy with glasses said. "I am Tenya Iida from the engineering department."

"Oh," Y/N smiled and offered her hand for him to shake. "I'm Y/N from the science department."

"What are you doing so far out here, Y/N?" Uraraka wondered. She had chopsticks on her hands. She'd opened her bento and Y/N couldn't help but notice it smelled really good.

"I like sitting by the cherry blossoms. It helps me relax," she answered sincerely.

"Even if there aren't any out?" Y/N was astonished to hear Shouto speak up, but she tried her best to act normal.

"I guess it just makes the anticipation grow," she told him. "The more time I spend out here, the more I think about the time when they will blossom."

"But you don't know when they will blossom," Shouto answered back. He had taken out a blue boxed bento as well that seemed to contain a sort of noodle meal.

"Maybe not," Y/N breathed out—a puff of white clouds left her mouth. "But I'm a patient person, and I can wait as long as it takes for them to open up and be full bloomed."
