She was cold—that, she was sure of. She watched from a corner as Dabi opened the trunk of his car, pulling out a few sweaters. Y/N rubbed her arms to keep herself from freezing. She'd lost her jacket when she'd been trying to get away earlier, so she'd been left with a thin, long sleeve sweater.
"Are we really leaving your car here?" Y/N questioned Dabi as he approached her.
He'd driven to the back of an abandoned building that looked like a gust of wind could easily make it crumble down. He had parked his vehicle at the very back, clearly hiding it from view. Ever since winter had started, mornings had been darker due to the sunrise not occurring until later in the day, but even with the sun out, Dabi was able to make it work.
"It's better that we aren't spotted," he confessed. "Things could get pretty dangerous if that happens."
Y/N didn't like the sound of that. "Why did you bring me here if you know it's so dangerous?"
"Because I know you won't say anything to anyone about it," he retorted.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"It's in your best interest," he answered nonchalantly. His eyes narrowed as his gaze shifted slightly to her neck. Y/N unconsciously brought her hand to block it, but Dabi had already seen the love mark. "Here," he threw a thick, black jacket at her. "Wear this. You're going to need it."
Y/N slid her arms through and zipped it up. She peeked at Dabi as he did the same as her. Why did she feel guilty that he'd seen the mark? It wasn't any of his business—she shouldn't care.
She chewed on her bottom lip. "Where exactly are we going?"
He didn't turn to look at her. "It's not far. Just follow me."
...
She was expecting thugs with chains, machetes, and maybe even guns. What she wasn't expecting was men in suits sitting around a wooden table inside an old rundown school building. There were four of them, all of them on their phone.
"Who are these people?" Y/N whispered to Dabi who was beside her. They were both looking through a floor window from the outside of the school.
"They work under an organization that deal with human medical trials," he muttered back.
Y/N scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. "And why are we interested in this?"
Dabi brought his finger to her lips. "You'll see. Now, quiet. They might hear you."
She obeyed what he'd instructed and turned her gaze back to the room, but she couldn't help but feel agitated and confused. What did these people have to do with Dabi? Why did she have to be there? He said it was for her best interest, but she couldn't start to think a way she was connected to any part of it.
Squinting, she noticed that two of them didn't seem Japanese. They both had blonde hair and blue eyes, and their structure was much bigger than the other two. Americans? What are they doing here?
"Caesar isn't going to join us today," the smaller of the two blonds spoke up, almost making Y/N fall at how deep his voice was.
"That's fine, just let him know what's going on later," the taller one of the Japanese men spoke up as he scooted his chair closer to the table. Y/N scrunched her eyebrows as she registered a slight accent in his voice, only then did she realize they were speaking in English.
