Cyrus is invited to TJ's Basketball final, but forgets that he already made plans to do something else. He knows that in this situation, there is only one thing he can do. Told from a single POV.

Cyrus POV

On a particularly sunny morning, I decided to take a stroll through the park. It was a calm day, and I wanted to enjoy the sunshine.

Whilst I was on my walk, I bumped into TJ. He seemed very cheery and I smiled. He had an aura about him that I couldn't put my finger on.

TJ: Hey Cyrus.

Me: Hi TJ.

TJ: Are you busy this evening?

Me: I don't think so.

TJ: Wanna come to the Basketball final? It would be great if you were there.

Me: Sure!

He smiled before walking away. I was excited about going to the match. I'm not a sporty person, but I don't mind watching it.

*Time skip to the Basketball match*

I arrived to the match early in order to speak to TJ. He spotted me and signalled for me to join him.

TJ: Hey you made it!

Me: Of course, I wouldn't miss it.

TJ: I feel much more confident now you're here.

Me: Cool, you'll do great.

I took my seat in the crowd, and as the game began, I watched TJ with interest. As the game went on, I became more and more distracted. Something in my mind was going crazy. It was trying to tell me something.

TJ scored and the team celebrated. I was so proud of him, but just as I became elated, I figured out what my mind wanted to tell me.

I was supposed to go to Jonah's Ultimate Frisbee match. I had promised him a couple of days ago, but I completely forgot about it. What didn't help was that TJ was so keen for me to watch him that I didn't even think about Jonah.

I was brought out of my trance by TJ, who had come over to me in order to celebrate. I couldn't help but look anxious.

TJ: You okay?

Me: No, I just remembered I had promised to watch Jonah's Ultimate Frisbee match tonight.

TJ: You did?

Me: Yes, he asked me a few days ago and I forgot about it.

As I looked at TJ, I noticed that he had a frown on his face. I couldn't understand what was going on.

TJ: I see, why don't you go and find him?

Me: Really?

TJ: Just go Cyrus, it's clear he means more to you than me!

Me: But---.

TJ: No buts! If you feel bad about letting him down, you clearly don't care about me!

Me: How does that work?

TJ: Choose, it's him or me!

I couldn't believe how TJ was acting, after everything that we had been through, he became so hostile and I couldn't take it anymore.

Me: In that case, I choose Jonah!

TJ: I knew it!

Me: At least he's never horrible to me. I thought I knew you better TJ.

TJ: Get out of here, you aren't welcome!

Before I went, I wanted to clarify something. I admitted to myself that I may not want to know the answer to this question, but if I didn't ask, I'd never know.

Me: So you don't love me?

TJ: What? You thought... hell no!

Me: Okay then, I'm out of here!

I stormed out, knowing that I had taken the moral high ground. I didn't want to let Jonah down, although I guess you could say I already had.

I ran as fast as I could to where the Ultimate Frisbee match was being held. When I got there, Jonah stared at me and I saw his eyes were red and puffy. Wait, does that mean that he had been crying?

I walked over to him, as there was a pause in the game. He looked at me with a pained expression which all but confirmed my suspicions.

Me: Jonah, I'm sorry I'm late.

Jonah: Uh huh.

Me: Come on, please talk to me.

Jonah: Why does it matter Cyrus? You chose TJ over me.

Me: How do you know that?

Jonah: I saw you go to the Basketball game earlier.

Me: I'm sorry, I forgot about this.

Jonah: You know, I really wanted you to be here tonight.

Me: But I am now.

I could tell that this conversation was probably not going to get any more positive than it was. I heard a heavy sigh from Jonah, and was at a loss.

Jonah: It's a bit late.

Me: But I can watch the rest of the match.

Jonah: That's not what I mean.

Me: Well, what do you mean?

Jonah: I came up with a plan with Andi and Buffy. Tonight I was going to...

He couldn't talk anymore, as he was fighting back tears. I put my arm around him, but he brushed it off.

Me: What were you going to do?

Jonah: I... I... *sobs* It...

Me: Please.

Jonah: You... don't... understand.

Jonah then ran away from the field and I couldn't catch up with him before I lost him. I sat down on a bench and couldn't control my own emotions. I cried and I felt a big pit of regret.

Part 2 will be coming out soon.

I wanted to explore the idea of Cyrus being given an ultimatum with this part, what did you think?
