The New Kid - Part 1

Jonah Beck is starting at his new school and is quickly introduced to the Good Hair Crew.

Cyrus POV

I knew it was going to be an interesting day. There was a new guy starting at school, and I was going to try and make sure he could settle in easily. I thought it was so exciting to meet a new face.

I met up with Andi and Buffy on the way to school, although they were not as bothered by the new guy as I was.

Me: Today is going to be so great!

Andi: It's just a new kid Cyrus, it's not exactly the most important thing in the world.

Buffy: Yeah, calm down.

Me: You guys don't understand, I don't have any guy friends and that could change.

Andi: If it does, then that's great, but remember we are your friends too.

Buffy: And we've never seen anyone as more important than you are.

My mind was suddenly playing out various scenarios where I met this new guy. I really wanted to make a positive first impression on him.

Me: Come on, let me have this moment. All I want is someone I can talk to about guy problems.

Andi: Why don't you wait until we meet him? He may be horrible.

Buffy: But for your sake, we'll keep an open mind.

Jonah POV

I was super nervous about starting at my new school. Usually I found it very easy to make friends, but I had no idea what this was going to be like. I hope that regardless of what happens, I'd at least make on new friend.

As I walked to school, I noticed many of the students. All of them blanked me completely, which gave me an idea that this was not going to be easy.

I noticed a guy similar in size to me, along with two girls and they were laughing about something. They strolled over to me.

Cyrus: Hi, you must be the new kid, I'm Cyrus. Cyrus Goodman.

Me: Hello, I'm Jonah Beck, nice to meet you.

I extended my hand and he shook it. His skin was soft and he was incredibly gentle. This made me feel happy because I knew he was going to be a good friend.

Cyrus: And these are my friends, Andi Mack and Buffy Driscoll.

Me: Hey!

Andi: Hello.

Buffy: Hiya.

Me: What's your first period?

Cyrus: English.

Me: Same here, can you show me the way?

Cyrus: Of course! Follow me!

Cyrus POV

I had only just met Jonah, but I could already tell that he was a great friend. The girls were still indifferent to him.

Jonah: So, tell me about yourself.

Me: My parents are therapists, which can be very stressful.

Jonah: I imagine.

Me: What about you?

Jonah: Well I just moved here, I live with my parents. My life is fairly boring.

I was amazed at just how easy it was to speak to Jonah. I felt no awkwardness and I was not shy around him like I was with others.

Me: You know, I've never had a guy friend before.

Jonah: I see, that surprises me Cyrus.

Me: What makes you say that Jonah?

Jonah: From what I've seen so far, you're very kind and a lot of fun to be around.

Me: Thats... honestly the kindest thing anyone has ever said.

Jonah: It's true though, you have shown such care for me in short time I've known you.

Me: Thank you.

Jonah POV

As we arrived at English, I found myself feeling really happy. There was only one thing that puzzled me.

Me: Why are you being so nice to me? I like the fact I've made a friend so quickly, but why?

Cyrus: I wanted to ensure I could be a good friend, and be the friend that I would want.

Me: I don't know if anyone has ever told you this before but---.

Andi: Guys!

Darn it! I was interrupted at the most important part by Andi. I was beginning to get really annoyed.

Me: What?

Andi: We can go into the classroom, you know.

Buffy: Come on.

Cyrus: Okay.

I was going to try and continue talking to Cyrus, but I didn't feel completely at ease. I really liked him, but if I was to say what I wanted to say, I could lose him.

Cyrus: So what were you going to tell me?

Me: Um... it doesn't matter.

Cyrus: Go on, what's up?

Me: I can't tell you here, it's to embarrassing.

Cyrus: Come on, it can't be that bad.

I decided to keep quiet whilst I worked out what would be the best thing to do. It was almost as if I wasn't supposed to say anything.

When class had finished, I made my mind up that I should tell him. Even though it could cause me to lose my friend, I thought it was worth it.

Me: I'm going to tell you.

Cyrus: Cool, what is it you want to say?

Me: This may come as a shock to you Cyrus, but...

Cyrus: Jonah, please just say it.

Me: I think you're so cute.

Cyrus: Oh... Does that mean---.

Me: I like you!

Cyrus: I...
