In this oneshot, TJ and Cyrus are dating, but a few home truths from Jonah make their relationship difficult. 3x08 didn't occur for the purposes of this.
Jonah wasn't jealous. Well, at least that's what he would say when he was asked. He was feeling weak, almost helpless. It was ironic, as he thought Cyrus was the helpless one, but events that had occurred the previous week showed him otherwise.
He had seen the way Cyrus looked at TJ, and equally the way TJ looked at Cyrus. It hurt to know that they were going out. It wasn't because of Cyrus, for he had been the best friend Jonah ever had, it was because of TJ.
What Cyrus didn't know is that TJ had been getting under Jonah's skin for many years. What made it worse is that TJ had started taunting him, about the fact that he had Cyrus.
*Flashback*
Jonah saw TJ and Cyrus holding hands as they walked down a corridor. It made Jonah feel so insecure, to think that his best friend was going out with someone known to everyone as not a nice person.
Cyrus went to use the restroom, which gave TJ the chance to taunt Jonah.
TJ: Is someone upset, because I have their best friend?
Jonah: No.
TJ: Yes you are, get over it. He doesn't like you anymore. You better keep away from him.
Fortunately Andi and Buffy had seen the commotion and came over.
Andi: TJ, why don't you get lost?
Buffy: One day Cyrus will see you for who you are.
TJ: I own Cyrus' heart, and you will never have it.
TJ walked off with that smug smirk on his face. Jonah looked down at the ground, and if Andi and Buffy weren't mistaken, he was lightly sobbing.
Andi: You really like Cyrus don't you?
Jonah: What, me? No!
They weren't fooled, and Buffy managed to wipe the tear that was falling slowly down his cheek.
Buffy: You do, and that's the proof.
*End of Flashback*
It was the most difficult situation for any of them. They all wanted to tell Cyrus, but he probably wouldn't believe him.
It was during a meeting after school that things really became tense. Cyrus was on his own, so Jonah went over and decided he had to tell the truth.
Cyrus: Hey Jonah!
Jonah: H-hi Cyrus.
Cyrus: What's wrong?
Jonah: I... don't know how to say this.
Cyrus: Come on, you can always talk to me.
Jonah: It's TJ...
Cyrus: What about TJ exactly?
Jonah: He's been taunting me non stop for the last week.
Cyrus: Has he now?
Jonah: I knew you wouldn't believe me... why did I do this?
As Jonah turned to leave, he was stopped by Cyrus. It became clear that the conversation had to happen.
Cyrus: Seriously, you're scaring me.
Jonah: I... TJ keeps rubbing it in that he's taking you away from me.
Cyrus: Really? Or are you just upset that I'm happy.
Jonah: It's not just me, it's Buffy and Andi too.
As if on cue, Buffy and Andi walked over to join the boys. Cyrus was not convinced that Jonah was being honest.
Andi: Did you tell him?
Jonah: Yes, and apparently I'm just upset.
Cyrus: I thought I was the helpless one.
Buffy: You're not helpless, and neither is Jonah.
Andi: If you saw how Jonah was the other day, you wouldn't question us.
Cyrus: What do you mean?
Jonah: I was really upset.
Buffy: He was crying, I've never seen him cry before.
Jonah: It's almost as if he's going out with you, to break all of our hearts.
Cyrus: He isn't, he loves me!
It felt like they were hitting a dead end each time. Jonah knew that he was probably nothing to Cyrus compared to TJ, and started giving up.
Jonah: You really believe that?
Cyrus: Yes.
Jonah: Fine, when he dumps you and admits that I was telling the truth, don't come to me.
Cyrus was shocked at what Jonah had said, but even more shocked when he noticed the tears evident in Jonah's eyes. He didn't get much of a look, as Jonah walked away.
Buffy: You know, this may surprise you, but for once Jonah is speaking with total sense.
Andi: Perhaps he's right, we'll let you get on with it. Come on Buffy, let's go.
The girls left Cyrus alone, and TJ turned up. It had been such an upsetting time for Cyrus, but he felt better for having TJ.
TJ: You okay?
Cyrus: No, Jonah made me mad.
TJ: Do tell...
Cyrus: He said you've been taunting him. You apparently keep rubbing our relationship in his face.
TJ: Well, wouldn't you?
Cyrus was so confused by this point, what exactly was TJ getting at? Looking into his eyes, Cyrus saw fire.
Cyrus: Well, no I wouldn't.
TJ: Come off it, he rubbed his relationships into you for months.
Cyrus: But he didn't know I liked him.
TJ: And he is really insecure. He is just a weak loser compared to everyone.
It took a worryingly long time for Cyrus to connect everything. He then saw TJ's smug smirk, and that made him angry.
Cyrus: Wait a minute, so Jonah was being truthful?
TJ: Yes, but that doesn't matter, you're mine!
Cyrus: But, I think Jonah...
TJ: You always think about Jonah don't you? Ugh! You know, I'm better off without you, you're also a loser!
Walking past, TJ pushed Cyrus over and that made the smaller boy feel ashamed. He had not listened to his real friends, which could mean that they wouldn't want to be friends with him. He set off to find them, and hoped that they would accept him back.
I made this one a little bit tense between Jonah and Cyrus.
Part 2 coming soon.
