Jonah and Cyrus are in college in this oneshot.
Jonah finds out Cyrus is going to the same college as him. After not seeing his friend for a year, Jonah wants to reunite. He discovers that Cyrus has been going through a rough time...
Jonah had always wanted to go to college. He wanted to study music and be famous one day. It was his dream, and he was determined to make it come true.
On his way into his first music lesson, he snuck a quick look at the register. He wanted to see if he knew anyone else. He didn't recognise any names, until he came to the last one, which proudly read Cyrus Goodman.
Cyrus wasn't in class yet, he had been trying to prepare himself for the comments that were going to be made. Upon finishing middle school, he really got into makeup and wanted to study fashion. He had got into music mainly thanks to Jonah when they were at school, although he didn't really become passionate until he and his friend had gone their separate ways.
Waiting patiently, Jonah took a seat on his own. He couldn't wait to see his old friend, it had been far too long for his liking. He watched the door and when Cyrus entered, Jonah's face lit up. Cyrus had looked rather isolated, so Jonah shouted over.
Jonah: Cyrus!
Cyrus: Ahh! Jonah!
They ran and hugged one another, causing a few "awws" from the others in the class. Cyrus was not able to speak very well, he was in awe. Jonah led Cyrus back to where he was sitting and they sat together.
Cyrus: H-hi!
Jonah: Hey, it's been so long.
Cyrus: Yeah, it has.
Jonah: So what's new?
Cyrus: Well... I'm gay.
Cyrus felt nervous about saying that, as he had received a lot of bullying when he had told others at high school, but he wanted Jonah to know.
Jonah: Tell me something I don't know *giggles*.
Cyrus: What?
Jonah: I figured that out years ago. You didn't like Iris and you never really looked at girls in that way.
Cyrus: That's what gave it away?
Jonah: Yes, why?
Cyrus: Usually the makeup makes everyone believe.
Jonah: Dude, it is possible to wear makeup and not be gay.
Cyrus felt so much better now that he was speaking to Jonah. He saw that his friend hadn't changed and was still just as loyal and supportive.
Cyrus: I've been bullied so much in high school, it was torture.
Jonah: Well, whoever did that to you is obviously jealous.
Cyrus: I don't know.
Jonah: Trust me bro, mean people tend to be insecure. You are very secure, because you are a hundred percent you, and proud!
Cyrus: You know what? You're so right!
Jonah: If I'm honest, I've always wanted a gay best friend.
Cyrus was slightly confused by that comment, but it was nice to hear regardless of what Jonah meant.
Cyrus: You have?
Jonah: Think about it, you look at guys in the same way that straight girls do. You can advise me on what they are looking for.
Cyrus: True.
Jonah: And I know lots of dudes, maybe I can set you up with one of them?
Cyrus: That would be swell.
The rest of the day was like a breeze for both Jonah and Cyrus. That feeling of familiarity had helped them to settle into college and not worry about being alone.
Cyrus: Do you want to come back to my dorm?
Jonah: Yes, we have so much to catch up on.
They walked to Cyrus' dorm and the first thing that Jonah noticed was that it was very neat and organised, unlike his own. They sat down on Cyrus' bed and spoke.
Jonah: So, have you ever had a boyfriend?
Cyrus: No, I've been so nervous about rejection.
Jonah: I don't think anyone would be silly enough to reject you Cyrus.
Cyrus: You are too nice to me Jonah.
Jonah: It's not that, seriously you are very kind and caring, why would any gay or bi guy not want to date you?
Cyrus: Because...
It made Jonah smile to see Cyrus struggle to think of reasons. He hoped it would make his friend see that he is more important and valuable than he believed.
Jonah: That's the point Cyrus, they would all happily date you.
Cyrus: Jonah, I did ask one guy out once.
Jonah: Really? Who was it?
Cyrus: It was TJ.
Jonah: The basketball guy?
Cyrus: Yeah... he was nice to me.
Jonah: What happened?
Cyrus: He said he was straight, and also he thought that I was with someone else.
This was one of the most interesting conversations either of the boys had ever had, but Jonah wanted to dig further.
Jonah: Who did he think you were with?
Cyrus: You.
Jonah: That's sweet, but it wouldn't work.
Cyrus: I know.
Jonah: Mainly because I'm straight dude. If I was gay I would definitely go out with you.
Cyrus: Thank you.
As the night drew to a close, they said their goodbyes. It wasn't too emotional as they knew they would see each other in the morning.
Jonah: We should hang out, just like we used to.
Cyrus: OMG yes we should, same time tomorrow?
Jonah: Works for me.
Cyrus: Me too!
They hugged one last time and Jonah left, feeling that reuniting with his best friend had been like a breath of fresh air. Cyrus couldn't stop smiling. For the first time he felt like he genuinely meant something, and his confidence was sky high.
