A while back I was talking about my concept ideas for my two sonas, Sloefeather (temporary suffix) and Blackbird. I've been thinking about those aus in the last few days because I haven't been able to write since I left my writing notebook (with my outline for Eyesore in it) in a hall, which I can retrieve tomorrow. Update - I have it now and I can write again. I've never wanted to write more in my life.
I was thinking of my HeatherSloe au, and trying to think of a plot of some sort for it. But one problem that I've had from the beginning is the fact that I've already written about all the characters that would be in it in Eyesore. And that would just be boring.
HeatherSloe is purely indulgent. It's not like the book is going to be popular in the fandom or anything - it's oc + canon character, which isn't that interesting to people unless that character is Scourge or something. I'm assuming the only people who will read it is friends - and that's fine! I'm writing it for fun, and reads won't be very important.
But the people who will be likely to read this will probably be people who have already read Eyesore, and even if this is just for fun, I want it to be interesting and different.
I'm wondering whether to just leave it as is, and write the same characters again, as Eyesore hasn't really gone too in-depth with WindClan outside of a few characters. Another idea is for it to be set around AVoS times, but this is another issue all on it's own, because the fifth book in The Weight of Souls series has Jayfeather as one of the pov characters and as it takes place around avos's time, the characters will still end up being already written about. I could always push it back to Lost Stars time, but I'd rather finish The Broken Code so that I know the whole timeline of events before writing about it. And that won't be done for like two years, so,, yeah. Or I could go the fuck it route and change absolutely everything.
I just want to say that book 5 in TWoS will probably go more indepth into the WC characters, but of course that'll take me years to actually write.
Of course the character's ages also come into question as well. A younger HeatherSloe would take place around PoT/OotS time, so Eyesore, while an older HeatherSloe au would occur in avos time.
I just want to hear your thoughts! This won't actually be written for a while - I've got my nz fic coming next (hopefully in a couple of weeks) as well as my BlackbirdNight au. And of course, the Empires, which I've sidelined for way too long.
