5. Welcome Home

When my feet hit solid ground, I fell. It felt like we were falling for hours and my legs felt like jello.

When I stood up, I noticed that my clothes were dry and so was every one else's.

"Everyone alright?" My dad asked loudly.

Before I could answer, I noticed where we were standing.

It was a huge fountain/pool and there were people all around. I saw a beautiful castle made of marble that reflected the sunlight. It was enormous and gorgeous. The people were whispering and scattering to find something or someone.

"Uhh mum, where are we?"

She opened her mouth to answer but was interrupted by horns. Loud fanfare rang throughout the courtyard.

Right before my eyes, everyone got on their knees and shouted, "Long live the King! Long live the Queen!"

Oh crud! I'm not dressed to meet royalty!

I try to smooth down my hair and straighten my uniform. I regret not changing like the rest of my family did. Time flies when you're trying to decide which shampoo to take on a surprise road...er...pool trip.

I swear my eyes went as big as saucers when a well dressed man, stepped forward and bowed to my parents.

"Your highnesses. You have returned and thank the heavens you are safe."

My parents smiled warmly.

"Thank you Reginald." My dad said before turning to the crowd.

"Good people of Alaktasia. I cannot tell you how much we have missed our home, our people and our land. But we have returned and grave news. The humans are planning to return."

Everyone gasped and started talking. I mean, in the stories, the humans were the bad guys but I think that this was more than them just stealing land and robbing people.

My father held up a hand to which everyone fell silent.

"But we are here now. We have defeated them once, and we will do it again. Pray to the Divines and lend us your strength. Only together can we have victory once again!"

The people cheered and everyone seemed to run out to make those preparations.

I looked to my siblings and they seem indifferent. I couldn't take it, how am I the only one confused?

"Excuse me, but can someone please tell me what is going on? What is Alaktasia? How are you King and Queen? What the hell is happening?"

"Silence yourself wench! How dare you speak to our monarchs that way!" The Reginald guy hissed.

"I will explain while we are inside" he said softly to me before turning to the man.

"And Reginald?"

"Yes your highness?"

"Don't ever speak to my daughter that way again" my dad spoke calmly but I could feel the harshness of his words almost weaken my knees with fear.

But apparently it did that to poor old Reggie.

"Forgive me, your grace! I knew not!" He sounded confused.

My dad looked at me and back at him. "It is fine but how could you forget Princess Kiara?"

The kneeling man looked up at me with shock and sadness.

"Th-the p-pr-princess? She has returned?"

My sister ushered me to the side and up some stairs, my duffle still on me.

"Nia, what's happening? Why does that guy look like he'd seen a ghost?" I asked quietly but letting my frustration deep into my voice. I was tired and grumpy and grumpy and confused and felt like I've been left out of a loop.

"That is something mum and dad can tell you. But remember this.." she turned around and hugged me, "at the end of the day, we are family and we did what we did because we love you"

I was stunned. My little sister was never one to show such emotions. She was too much like our mother. Whatever the real story is, it must be terrifying for her to act like this.

She continued walking as I tried to process what was happening and the new information.

She led me into a huge room which looked familiar.

As if, I saw it once in a dream of a dream.

"Mum and dad will come and tell you everything but stay here for now."

She turned around and left but not before whispering into my room.

"Welcome home Kia"
