42. The Morning After

I woke up the next morning feeling a heaviness in my body and my heart. It was close to breaking but I would be firm. I had to be. If I let it get to me, the talk we had yesterday would be for nothing. I cried myself to sleep last night, and I know that with his hearing, he knew. But today would not be a day for crying, I let it all out yesterday and today, I will be stronger.

Being in extensive warrior training has cemented in me that warriors make their biggest mistake when they are emotional. Emotions cloud judgement and in a battle where life or death is decided with fast thinking and decisive strikes, it was deadly. But then again, he was the one that was made for me, and I for him. Feeling like this is normal, especially when there's secrets and the bond is twisting, but today it would not show.

I heard my phone buzz with an incoming message and it turns out that it was just Erica letting me know that the captive tried to control one of the men guarding him. The gamma is now in the hospital, recovering for the wounds afflicted by the water ring.

"Huh, that's sad." It truly was.

My magic doesn't fade with distance or time. As long as I'm in the same realm, it would hold till I undid it. the stronger the mage the stronger the magic will lash out at anyone who tries to stop it from doing its intended job. George would learn today that I got to the rank of general in the army through my hard work and strength, not because of my title. I was never allowed to train with the others because of my position, but my siblings and i were trained nonetheless by the four generals who controlled the four sectors of the army. Each sector was divided up according to the elements.

"Ahhhh!" Thud.

I heard Nox's voice from the kitchen. It stopped my train of thought and had me rushing down the stairs.

"What happened?!" I was panicking. There was smoke everywhere and the king of the wolves was in pain and that was saying something.

I looked around to see roughly chopped food scattered on the floor. His hand was bleeding  and red.

"Stupid knife! Stupid pot!" he screamed.

I looked up to see the skillet burning the eggs that were on it. I grabbed a dishtowel and grabbed it off the stove and chucked it into the sink. I turned the flame off and opened up the windows to let the smoke out.

"What were you doing?"

I drew some water from the tap and wrapped it around my hand. I knelt beside him and checked his hand with my dry hand. He growled when I touched his wrist.

"You growl one more time and I'm kicking your ass." I huffed out impatiently. He immediately stilled and let me check his hand.

It was burnt. I don't know how he was handling the hot skillet, but it burnt the skin on his palm. There were also cuts along his fingers that were slowly healing.

Sigh.

I shook my head sadly and placed my water covered hand over his. He winced slowly but as soon as the water started glowing, the relief on his face was inevitable. While it was healing, I asked him again, what he was doing.

"I was trying to make you breakfast, like the one Jamie made yesterday." he sighed out. "That morning was perfect and I wanted to recreate it but I have never learned how to cook. I was taught to lead a pack, not to cook for it. I just wanted to apologise for how pig-headed I was yesterday." He finished off.

I felt the sincerity in his voice, but...

"I accept your apology, but there's still the matter of the secret you're keeping from me. I want to be with you and the bond is calling me to submit, and I promise that I will answer it only when we have nothing hidden between us."

His face fell and I could hear the mourning in his heart. What was so bad that he couldn't tell me?

I felt the water stop its healing and the glowing stopped. I took it off his hand and rushed to stop the smoke alarm from beeping. I ignored him for a while whilst I aired the house out and cleaned the cook top. It was messy but I appreciated the good intentions behind it.

I decided to make him breakfast. I started mixing the pancake batter and pulling out the bacon and eggs. I could hear his stomach growl from the kitchen as soon as the bacon started sizzling on the skillet. Breakfast was served with coffee and awkward silence.

I could feel his gaze on me. as much as I hate to admit it, I still craved him. The bond was demanding reconciliation and I would be more than happy to to start, but I just can't get over him keeping secrets from me. And him treating me like a lesser being. When he stepped up, I promised myself, I would do everything to fix the bond.

I kept my eyes on my food and my phone. Texting Missy and Jamie as I ate.

I could feel that he was annoyed but I didn't care. The morning was quiet and full of tension but it all exploded when the air wall started glowing.

We both ran outside and saw that there were people throwing things at it, trying to get it to open.

He swore under his breath as his beast was fighting to come to the surface.

"Witches"
