Waiting for my parents seemed to take ages, so I decided to look around the room.
There were huge windows whose height spanned from the ceiling to just below my butt. A few cushions were by one window which had a bigger area in front. I sat down and found it so comfortable. Beside the window was a floor to ceiling book case.
There is a freaking library!
I have always loved books, so I was excited to explore some of the leather bound knowledge keepers in front of me.
But I couldn't get too ahead of myself.I saw a huge dressing table with a gigantic mirror on the other side. I sat at it and again it felt familiar but I couldn't put a finger on it. I stared at myself through the mirror and noticed my reflection. I would say I was pretty alright looking. Strong brows, bright hazel eyes, proportional nose, ok lips but other than that there was nothing unforgettable about me.
Plain. Simple.
The opening of the door broke me out of my thoughts.
"Kia?"
"Mum?"
She stepped in with my father and they had smiles on their faces.
"We told them to leave everything as it was, no one was allowed to come in here except to clean it. It's just as you left it."
I looked around the room, again it felt familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Mum, I don't remember any of this. Why does it seem like I'm the only one confused? Even Nia knew her way around! What is all this?"
They looked at each other before sighing in unison.
"There's a secret we've kept from you all this time. It's a sad one but we did it for your protection."
I was flabbergasted at my father's words.
Secret? Since when did they start keeping secrets? Certainly not when he gave me the talk at 10 years old!
But I looked at them. These were my parents. They loved me and protected me my whole life, maybe I should trust them on this but..
"No more secrets. I want to know everything!"
They sat down on the sofa as I shifted my chair to face them.
"A few years ago, Alaktasia was under attack from humans. Hunters. To end it, your mother and I had to banish all the humans. All the humans that were banished were sent to..."
"Hollow Cove" I finished. I don't know how I knew, but I did.
My father nodded with a sad smile. He grabbed mum's hand as if to give him strength to continue.
"We had no choice. It's human nature to want to conquer new lands as they've done on earth. There were many humans who were mates to our supernatural citizens but we couldn't risk any of them raising a revolt to spite us, so all the humans had to go."
"Mates?" It wasn't an unfamiliar word. Often meant friends or for animals, their partners in breeding. But I guess supernaturals had mates too. I just don't know which definition their context came under.
"Yes Kia", my mother smiled one of her rare cheesy smiles. "Soul mates. Your fated other half. Just like your father and I."
I nodded, a bit much to take in but I tried to process it.
"The supernaturals mated to humans were influenced by their human lovers to revolt. They had a powerful army and we were overwhelmed. They had witches, faeries and every manner of supernatural creatures. Werewolves kept to themselves, as did the vampires. We had witches and faeries on our side because the army disturbed the flow of nature which is where they got their power from. Many died but we had no choice, all the humans had to go."
I nodded sadly.
"To do that we needed an immense amount of power. The only way to travel between worlds was water. It connects us all. And at that time, there was only one person strong enough to do that." He looked at me intently.
"Who was it?"
He sighed sadly before speaking.
"Princess Kiara...the Elemental Water mage in Alaktasia"
What the fu-
"Language Kia!" My father scolded
Oops...I said that out loud.
I apologised and tried to wrap my mind around the information I was getting. This can't be real, can it? I'm just regular and normal. How can I be a mage?!!! Like the Fairy Tail gang?
I didn't want to speak up because my parents were still telling me the story...I couldn't help but feel the sad part has yet to be told.
"You went to greet the armies. And among them was a werewolf, an alpha. He followed his mate to war. You fought side by sided till you got injured. Shot in the back. And with your last remaining strength, you called on your element to sweep the battle field. It swept away the humans and transported them to where Hollow Cove now stands. You were so weak, we didn't think you'd make it." My dad says with tears in his eyes. My mum grabbed his hand and looked at me with watery eyes.
I was dumbfounded, they must've been in so much pain. I felt their pain as if it were my own. I've always been somewhat empathic.
"The law of magic here is heavily guarded by balance. You disturbed it by using that much, you took from nature and nature wanted it back. So you continued to decline and fell into a coma. You just kept getting worse and your healing wouldn't kick in." She continued, trying hard not to cry.
"We were worried. That's when we decided to move you to Hollow Cove. There wasn't a severe magic balance on earth, so you would get better there. So we left your older brother in charge while we traveled with you."
"Wait what? I thought Liam was at university?"
"We knew that it was the only way to explain his absence. He travelled with us to Hollow Cove. Now since, time flows differently for us, the humans were swept away and landed in the 1600s. When we got there, a 400 years later in their time but 4 years in ours, the humans had forgotten about Alaktasia and were developing the land to be present day Hollow Cove. We didn't age and Liam altered your memories so that when you woke up, your knowledge of Alaktasia would be a distant dream. And he cast a spell on your siblings to make them younger so that we could blend in better. After centuries, you woke in the human year 2010out of the blue. You had no memory of what happened and you thought you were just a regular girl. It was safer that way." I stilled at this. I always thought I was the most plain thing on the planet.
Sure, my parents were important people in our town, the sibling were geniuses and Liam was a gentleman whom everyone was happy to be around, but I was simple. I shook myself out of my thoughts as my mum continued.
"The humans were still vengeful of their banishment from Alaktasia. They then created a society that would keep the memory of their homeland alive and hunt down any supernatural. Since we changed your memories, scent and body type, they wouldn't suspect a thing."
My mouth was open and my eyes were wide. How could they have kept this from me?
Despite my shock they continued on.
