I told her that we could take my car since I was doubtful that my mate and I would fit comfortably in her tiny black one. She agreed and I walked to the garage. When she went back to lock her car while I backed out of the garage, I saw her visibly shiver as she walked away from the house.
Nox was sitting behind me and began speaking.
"It's the air wall. It's semi-solid composition makes it hard for long distance weapons to pass but it's just a chilly breeze for the human allowed to pass through it."
I parked the SUV beside Jamie's car while she was looking for something inside.
"What do you mean 'allowed'? Does something bad happen to those who aren't?" I questioned with a bit of panic.
"Yes, it would tear them apart."
I gulped. "How was Jamie allowed and how did those wolves not get torn up?"
"I'm guessing your sister had set it up before your mortal lives began. At this point, it has a mind of its own, to protect the ones the caster recognises as family and destroy foes. You are kin, so it recognises you as one of its masters. Jamie is someone close to your heart and the fact that you led her in by hand means that the shield has to allow her."
I nodded. Waiting for Jamie who was still looking and for the answer to my second question.
"As for those wolves, I am the Alpha of their original pack. Their blood isn't as strong as mine and therefore I am their superior in more ways than one. I walked through as your mate, the shield recognised as my Luna and therefore all wolves are allowed to come through. Unless your sister was here to reinforce it, that's the way it'll stay."
I nodded and thought nothing more of it as we drove to the mall under Jamie's directions.

After a lot of bad singing from both me and Jamie, much to the displeasure of my mate, we got to the mall. It was a fancy building that wasn't there five years ago. Apparently, Freddy's father set it up to help bring businesses into town. Looks like it's one of the better things he's done since he took over. We parked in the parking lot on the second floor and walked right in to the food court. It wasn't busy but it wasn't actually empty. Enough people to make the day go by quickly when serving but not enough to overwhelm them at any one point.
We sat down as Jamie went to get food. It was a bit awkward because I had always been the one to sponsor our food outings and right now I didn't have any money on me to buy food or pay her back. Or at least split the bill.
She came back with a smile. "I know what you're thinking KiKi. And you don't have to feel bad. You were my sugar friend when we were younger so now it's my turn to take care of you."
A little laughter slipped out before I could stop it. "A sugar friend?"
"You're not a sugar daddy or a sugar mommy so yes, a sugar friend." She shrugged. We looked at each other in silence for a full minute before we crack up laughing. I've missed this.
"Well it was fun being your glucose guardian." I said after I wiped all the tears.
She chuckled and wiped away her own tears. I looked at Nox to see if he needed an explanation but his eyes were focused in the distance and narrowed. His posture was stiff and poised to strike.
I followed his line of vision and saw a group of 6 people not too far away that looked to be Jamie's...erm...our age. The women were ogling my mate while staring daggers at us. The men were doing vice versa. I took Nox's hand and gently squeezed it in hopes of making him relax, but all he did was wrap his arm around me and kiss my forehead, never once breaking eye contact.
