30. The Week That Followed

Its been exactly five days since we left the pack and so far things were quiet and peaceful. I was starting to get suspicious by the lack of activity in my area, but I chalked it up to good luck. I wouldn't look this particular gift horse in the mouth. Jamie gave me a new phone and we have been talking like crazy, catching up on all the five years I've missed.

I haven't heard anything from Erica but I sent her text to let her know of my new number and to get back to me when she can.

It was peaceful and I'm pretty sure that Nox played a big role in it. In the mornings, we went for a jog in the woods, occasionally spotting some pack scouts but they mostly kept to themselves. During the day he helped me practice my water magic, it's a good thing that he knows me...the old me, really well because the training tips he gave me really worked well. I practiced in the pool for a good few hours before went for another type of training.

He started teaching me how to defend myself. Basics of breaking different types of holds and the pressure points you can hit on a person to temporarily stun them while you can run away.

Although my powers and fighting skills were returning, it wasn't what made me feel at peace. It was just Nox.

His presence was calming and warm. He made me feel protected and like nothing could go wrong. I was starting to understand what the mate bond did in my past, and let's just say that the pictures I relive made my whole body flush in embarrassment and awkwardness.

How was I so bold in front of this Adonis lookalike that I...

Down girl! Don't let your thoughts get away from you.

My face turned red as I tried to shake the memories away. Filing them away to dissect and comprehend another day.

As if sensing my internal struggle he announced that I was done for the day. We'd been training for nearly 2 hours and I was beat. I quickly ran upstairs to use the shower. While taking off my clothes, slowly because my muscles ached, I noticed my reflection. My body seemed stronger. I had only been training for five days but my arms no longer jiggle, my belly seems more toned and my butt was shaping up. I was surprised. I never considered myself fat, I was always happy with my shape, but the new look made me happier. I vowed that I would never skip training and always work hard to keep myself in tip top shape.

It felt too natural to be pushing myself in training like this. Maybe it was a part of the old me that is starting to rise from the dark caverns of my mind, making itself known. As soon as the hot water hit my skin, I felt relief. The water helped relax my muscles but it also subconsciously triggered my healing, within seconds all of my bruises and aches disappeared. After completing my bathing ritual, I dressed in an oversized sweater and shorts before going downstairs to start cooking.

I could hear the shower going in my parent's room and sped away quietly. Although being around him was comforting, I couldn't stop the wild thoughts running around in my head ever time I saw him. I avoided eye contact and did my best to avoid skin to skin contact, hence the sweater. Everytime I touch water and think of a person or an object, it seems to trigger memories. And it seems that my height was also changing as I progressed. I was slowly becoming taller as I felt my magic growing. Maybe it was because I was coming to terms with all that had happened and Liam's potion was slowly taking effect? Or maybe my true form was coming out? Either way, it felt right.

But what didn't feel right were the insane thoughts I had of Nox. I felt borderline obsessive and it was slowly making me lose my mind. I didn't know how to stop it  or how to make it less creepy, all I knew was that everytime I thought of him, desire pooled in my belly and my heartbeat sped up. I know he notices because his eyes would grow dark and he'd walk outside to get air.
