I walked in after my mom did and rushed to my room. Too many things were happening. I began stuffing jeans and T-shirts into my duffle bag of the hangers, it felt to urgent to pack them neatly.

Not that I would have packed it neatly if I was given more time. I hate folding and that's why I hang everything.

Is this all because I thought I broke that pipe?

Halfway through stuffing my bag, I stood up and looked at my reflection on my full length mirror.

I'll just tell my dad that it was my imagination.

Nothing more and then we can return to our regular, boring lives where mum and dad would probably drive us to the restaurant in town tomorrow where they've made reservations and and we'll all have a nice meal for my birthday.

I looked at myself and thought that it wasn't fair that everyone's life is thrown into chaos by my imagination.

I rush to my parents room and open the door.

"Mum...dad, I have something to say"

They stop their packing to look at me.

"If this about what I said at the station, it's just my overactive imagination and I didn't do it. Do we have to pack in a hurry? I mean, it's such a hassle and it's over nothing and ..." I rambled on.

My mum looked at him and back to me before holding up a hand to silence me.

"Kiara, I know this is confusing and sudden...but please trust us. There is something we need to tell you but we need to get out of this house first."

Before I could argue she looked at me with something I've never seen in my mum's eyes.

Fear.

"Trust us Kiara" she said quietly. With that I nodded and dashed backed to my room.

My mum is the definition of a powerful woman, she radiates power and authority and is always fearless.

To see her scared like that struck a cord in me.

This is freaking serious.

I finish packing my toiletries and head down to the pool where I could hear my family talking.

When I got there, I see everyone with their bags.

"All done but why are we here? Shouldn't we be in the car?"

My siblings joined hands with our parents and waited for me to do the same. I was officially confused.

"Kiara, I know this is confusing for you, but you need to join hands. It'll open the gate."

What the f-

"What portal Mum? What are you talking about?"

She quickly grabbed my left hand as my brother did my right. I could feel that spine tingling feeling again but this time it seemed like it was flowing to my entire family.

The pool lit up and started bubbling.

Before I could say "what the crud?" the pool water rose from its place and like a tidal wave, washed over us and dragged us down. I took a big breath in.

I could feel it in my gut that the words regular and boring were no longer a part of my life.

It seemed like we were floating, falling and sinking at the same time.

From what I gathered the pool was a doorway. And we were travelling through it.

But in my head, all I could think about was... damn! I didn't know our pool was this deep.

A bit idiotic, I'll admit but I was too shocked to think smarter thoughts.

I looked all around and I could see that my family was looking at me. I was holding my breath but they were all normal.

"Breathe honey"

Almost as if she was willing me with her eyes and words, I gasped for air and she smiled.

"How is this possible?"

My dad looked at my mum who nodded before he turned to me and spoke.

"Kiara, we are not of this world. Earth was a safe haven for us to hide in. We are now travelling back to our real home"

I'm pretty sure my eyeballs would've popped out of my sockets from how wide they were right now.

"What? Ho-...are we aliens?"

They laughed a little but shook their heads.

"Remember those fairytales we used to read you when you were younger? Of a land far away full of magic and ..."

"...mysteries untold, full of wonder and power and only few know about" I finished. It was the bedtime stories they told us when were young. But the monsters in their stories were the humans. Werewolves and vampires kept to themselves, faeries tended to nature and dragons were guardians. Humans in the land corrupted it.

I nodded. "Yes, I remember"

"Those weren't just stories Kiara, it is our history."

Before I could say something else, a bright light appeared below is temporarily blinding me as my feet felt solid ground.

And at that moment, questions started ricocheting around my brain faster than I can answer.

Who am I? What am I? What are we?
