I saw him standing outside, the sun was hidden behind some clouds and it looked like it was about to rain again. It cheered me up slightly, being around water seemed to do that now.
Erica was trying to discourage me by taking my hand and trying to pull me back, but I was taller and bigger than her so it was easy to keep moving while my pixie friend tried to hold me back.
"Hey you!"
He looked at me, confused.
"Why are you treating her like that?" I was fuming.
His eyes darted between Erica and me, confused. "What do you mean?"
Before I could let him have a piece of my mind, Erica yanked at my hand and looked me in the eye and pleaded with me.
Her eyes were full of sadness and pain. I felt it deep inside me and it made me hurt for her. I wasn't going to let this go, not after what I've learned. Gently yet firmly, I pried her fingers off of mine, my eyes letting her know that this is something I had to do.
I looked back at the Beta male and felt fury rush through me. "How dare you refuse to mark her? how dare you hold her past over her head and guilt-tripping her into accepting this fate. It's a disgusting thing to do and she deserves better." My voice was low but there was no mistaking the animosity.
He huffed as Julia gasped. "What? You told us that she wasn't ready to bear your mark and the beta female responsibilities. Explain yourself!" She was getting mad too as was her right. She was the Alpha Female, the mother of the pack. She was protective and soft-natured yet she was fair.
The Beta gulped as he started pulling at his hair and shaking his head. Erica had left sobbing loudly. I guess she couldn't take to hear what he had told her. Either that or she didn't want to endure the looks that everyone would give her after the truth came out. I felt a bit stupid following through with this, it was her life...it was a secret between them but secrets like these didn't help anyone. They make a person wither inside and I wasn't going to let her go through that.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this." He started. "When I met her, it was as if my life had finally become complete. She was smart, beautiful, strong...everything I ever prayed to the Moon for. But one night while we were out with her friends, that human told me that he had taken her virtue. I was so mad that I refused to speak to her. How can I explain to my beast that our other half had given herself to another man! I was devastated. Morgan told me that until she could prove herself, I shouldn't mark her." Julia shook her head in disbelief, Chad was mad and Nox was stoic. I turned to Mason and put a hand on his shoulder.
"If she had known any of this," I gestured with my arms, "she would've never slept with him. I lived as a human for many years, and although my parents warned me against sleeping around, the others don't have the same ideals. Her best friend went missing, her father became an alcoholic and her mother died. She didn't run to drugs or anything, she sought comfort in another man's arms. But I know her, once she knows and believes that something is right, she holds on to it for life."
I felt warmth in my palm that rested on his shoulder, flowing out of me and into him. I wanted him to see that he was putting her through a lot of pain and that it was eating her from the inside. He started to sob as he hugged me close and wet my t-shirt with his tears. Although I was terrified that this man was hugging the life out of me and drenching my clothes, I knew what I had to do.
I soothed him by patting him on the back, my palm still tingling from how warm it was. I whispered into his ear. "Go to her and make things right."
He stood up straight and wiped his face, "How?"
I looked him in the eye. "You know how." I smiled softly. He thanked me as he dried his eyes and then took off like a bullet in the direction Erica ran in.
I turned around and the Alpha pair were in tears. My mate stood there stiff as a board. They bid me farewell as they went to look for the Beta couple.
I waved goodbye as I felt a warm presence behind me. He lifted me up like I weighed nothing and started carrying me into the forest. He didn't tell me, but I knew we were heading home. The pull to the house was strong and I let him carry me as I slowly fell asleep to the sound of his heartbeat and steady breathing.

When I woke up, I was in my bed and Nox was gone. I looked around the house for him but I guessed he must've headed out. Checked the time to see that it was a little past 8pm. My sleeping pattern seems to be getting messed ever since I came back but I couldn't complain. I didnt have to go to school and I had plenty of time to spend with my friends before travelling back to my family.
Mason's sweat and tears, (which are the only two substances I'm going to acknowledge) had dried on me and was starting to smell weird. My nose was never overly sensitive before, but somehow the smell he left on me was irritating and making me antsy.
I got my clothes off and changed into my bathrobe. I tried to put them in the washer but something about it wasnt right, I felt like the smell was going to stick no matter what. So instead, I did the first thing that came to mind. I went to the patio and tossed it into the fire pit. I lit it up and watched my t-shirt burn away into tiny shrivelled up dots. While I waited, I kept thinking about how Mason acted after I touched him and why my palm was tingly.
"You're thinking about how that Beta acted?"
"AHHH!" I jumped. He keeps popping out of nowhere and scaring me. It was unnerving how such a big man moved so silently.
"DONT. DO. THAT." I poked his chest at every word but he seemed unaffected which further pissed me off.
"Yes, I was."
He smirked. "Excitatio"
"Huh?" I had no idea what just came out of his mouth.
"Your divine essence has been awakened. You're going to start feeling your magic and using it without even thinking. Right now, You're drawing water from a well that is slowly filling up. But soon, with much practice, the water will come to you."

Hey gang
First order of business, sorry if you've been waiting. Currently job and apartment hunting. It's not fun and it takes up much of my time. Also, I've been in hospital and all I got was a mask and bright red spot on my tush from the penicillin injection 😖😣
Anywho, I've been holding off on this chapter for too long so I decided to get it out of the was.
As always, I will edit later but do tell if you spot my errors 🙂
