Wolves came pouring in from every direction and mayhem ensued. The growls, howls and the clash of flesh and claws could be heard. Nia, Jamie and I stood by, protected by a few female lycans under the order of their Alpha. Cue eye roll.
Although we didn't need protection, it was a nice sentiment. One that got boring very fast.
In the blink of an eye, Nia and I were on the battlefield cutting down the enemy wolves with as much ferocity as they rolled in. Although the lycan pack did not need our help, we couldn't help it. Commanders and generals fought beside their soldiers. They didn't sit around waiting for the news of victory or failure to come.
This was something that I fought hard to instill in the Alasktasian Army, it wasn't appreciated by all but it was one that boosted morale as well as showed a united front. Strong alone but better together.
Lavinia was a force to be reckoned with, she was moving so fast that within the blink of an eye, she had her opponent subdued and was searching for her next victim. We were worked together flawlessly, a well oiled machine with all the gears in place, we were unstoppable.
Decades of training together did that and it was seamless how we switched between defence and offence without saying a word. I summoned my ice blades and went to work cutting down wolf after wolf. My blades would have their thirst quenched by the blood of my enemies.
Nox had all but torn the alpha to shreds, but the bloodthirsty aura rolling off of him made it impossible for lesser wolves to get close. His son was nowhere to be found and their numbers were dwindling. In this moment of thought, a mass of fur and claws hit me.
"Don't worry, you'll get your turn with me." I said with a sick smile. My arm was bleeding from his claws, I swiped the blood and licked it while looking him dead in the eye.
The fear that entered his eyes was fuel for my rage. I charged forward and with two slices he was was done.
With half of the attackers either tied up or torn to shreds, the other half was starting to retreat. Their alpha was fighting to breathe at the hands of my mate. He kicked and clawed at Nox's hands to try and loosen the lycan grip around his neck, but it was futile. Nox ended their fight early, but held him down and made him watch as his wolves died all around us. The hope fading in his eyes like the light fleeing at twilight, that was all we needed. We had won.

After throwing all the prisoners in the pack dungeon, we all gathered around the pack dining room."For all of you, we are victorious thanks to the every single person here. The strength you lent to this fight is what keeps this pack safe and for that, we honor you." I shouted out loud so that my voice could be heard over the celebration.
Howls and cheers could be heard all around. The betas were in the cells right now...probably torturing the prisoners from the Blue Moon pack but it served them right anyway, they harmed this pack. The feral look on Missy's face when they were put in charge of interrogations sent chills down my spine. Note to self, don't piss Missy off.
The alcohol was brought out and everyone pitched in to make food for the festivities.
As I looked out to everyone, tears pricked my eyes. I realised that these people were now my people. I belonged with them as I belonged with Nox. Growing up in the Mage kingdom, I was always a bit odd and constantly stood out from everyone else. I cared too much about people, even more than a regular royal would. I felt too deeply for them and it was a testament to how strong my empath powers were, but it made me look weird to the rest of the mages. Yet I proved myself, rising the ranks using only the common nature to stop anyone from later saying that my ability to wield multiple natures. That in itself was hard for most mages to comprehend since we are haughty and proud in nature, the notion that one would not flaunt the full extend of their power to rise through the ranks was practically unheard of.
And just for that, I was often seen as crazy or abnormal and that left me with no friends among my peers. My siblings were the best kind of friends to have but at the end of the day, I wanted to have people who was not a part of my family to look at me and see qualities worthy of their friendship.
I thanked the Divines for sending me to earth where I met Missy and Jamie. And now I get to share my true self with them and that was enough to make my eyes prickle with unshed tears.
"A penny for your thoughts, Luna?" I could hear the smirk in her voice.
"Now that I'm Luna, don't you think my thoughts are at least worth a dollar?" I replied, smiling into my drink, taking a sip of the wine they had poured into a red solo cup since I refused to let them get the wineglass for me.
The chuckling came closer as my sister sat down beside me on the bench that overlooked the festivities from the back porch of the pack house. "You might be right, I don't think I have a dollar on me. Scratch that, I dont even have a penny...damn, I'm broke af!"
It was my turn to laugh. She laid her head on my shoulder and sighed.
"I know this is meant to be a day of celebration but I have a bad feeling." She spoke up after a minute of silence.
"I know." was all I could say.
I was proud of my pack. We had been victorious in our battle and we had avenged all the ones we lost. But it felt too easy. Our pack was a pack of lycans and against regular werewolves, we were the clear winners before the battle began...but this victory felt much like that day when Nox and I were fighting...a calm before the storm.
We both knew this, Nia didn't have to read my mind to see that I knew. When you've lived as long as we have in a world where war and battle were constant, you learnt to trust your magic and what it told you. Much like how the wolves have animal instinct our magic knew and saw stuff we couldn't and all we can do is choose whether or not we listened to it.
"No matter what happens, the Four Winds and I will stand with you." she held my hand and I felt her resolve.
"San and I also stand with you." Rue spoke up as she came from around the corner with San and Jay.
"You know me, Kiki. I'm always on your side."
"I'm so lucky to have you guys with me. All of you."
There we stood. Four women with tremendous mana flowing in their veins, their magic all telling them the same thing. Storm clouds were rolling in. We looked over the joyful pack as we wondered what can of worms we have opened. Completely unaware to the dark figure lurking in the distance.
