I walked into the club and saw that there was no bouncer by the door. I stomped right in, Eric in tow. The place was slightly packed but it was still easy to manoeuvre around the gyrating bodies. And man, did those bodies not have rhythm.
I got to the spot where we used to sit together and talk for hours...all that stood there was a dancing pole. That was also occupied
Well. I was pissed at this point. Why would someone ruin such a beautiful place?
I turned around and walked into Eric. He was so close behind me, but I was the one who nearly fell to the ground. He caught me and helped steady me. With a thank you loud enough to be heard over the music, I walked to the bar to find the owner of this joint. I was going to get answers.
After wading through a steady stream of people, we finally got to the source of everyone's happy juice in this club.
Behind the bar was a fit person who had their back turned to us. The figure didn't indicated their gender. The head was shaved on the sides and had muscles in their back that you could see through her tank top, but the overall body was petite and somewhat feminine. I think they were wiping some wet glasses.
"Excuse me?!" I asked loudly but politely.
"What will you have, sweetheart?" Came the reply.
I felt my bodyguard tense up. The voice was gruff and gravelly but there were feminine undertones.
"I'm looking for the owner."
"You're looking at her." She said without sparing us a glance. She careful stacked the glasses back on the shelf.
"Look hun, if you're not going to order you might as well f-..." she said as she turned around.
What I saw next would forever be engraved into my mind. I looked at her. She had grown so much.
"Kiki?" She gasped as her eyes started to water.
"JBear?!"

My eyes were wides as saucers as I looked at one of my best friends.
How?
Before tears could fall out of her dark brown eyes, she wiped them.
She turned around and shoulder tapped a guy behind her. "Watch the bar for a few?"
He smiled at her. "Sure thing boss."
She jumped over the bar and grabbed my hand, dragging me with her. She was quick and left Eric trying to catch up to us.
She pulled me into the librarian's office which I guess is now her office. Eric entered in time to see her hug the life out of me as she started to bawl. I felt tears prick my eyes as I heard her sobs. Watching someone strong break down like this was enough to bring tears to anyone's eyes. I held on tight to her as she squeezed me harder, almost as if she was trying to convince herself that I'm really here and also to make sure I didn't disappear.
When the crying died down she held me at arms length and inspected me before speaking.
"How? Where have you been? What happened to your family?"
I wiped my eyes. "It's a long story."
Her eyes hardened a little. "It better be, it's been 5 years."
