Felix wasn't the type to snoop around and watch full-bred humans walk around, but he was so caught up in the looks, the smile, of this full-bred human that he couldn't help by let his eyes follow his every move.

His mother always told him, don't trust humans with your secret, they'll turn on you. Later, Felix learned that she meant hide your ears and tail. As a Koala Hybrid, that was deemed for different than it sounded.

His ears weren't the problem, his tail was. The ball of fluff was hard to hide in regular jeans, so Felix often found himself wearing baggy sweatpants to hide the ball.

So bad, he wanted to catch this human's attention and be by his side.

But what hybrid would willingly out himself when they knew the risks? Humans hated hybrids, always going on rampages to kill every last one of them, or keep them as pets as if they weren't any more human than they were. His mother choked death by a human, killing her with a slow, painful death.

Felix learned to fear humans just as much as they hated them, which was exactly why Felix was merely following this human, rather than just going up to him and talking to him.

Though it was one of those days that Felix had to attend to his human job to pay rent for his apartment. He simply cleaned the tables at a restaurant, as his manager quickly learned he was very bad with people.

"Good morning, Felix." His manager greeted.

"Morning." Felix muttered back, still afraid for his secret to slip out and for him to be hated amongst the scary humans.

"We have a new employee. I was hoping you could show him the ropes since you two will be working the same area."

Felix gulped, but agreed anyway. "Yeah, sure."

"Great. Hyunjin!" His manager called into the back.

When the new employee emerged from the back area, Felix's eyes widened. It was the human he would follow around, from afar.

"This is Hyunjin. Hyunjin, this is Felix. He'll help you learn the ropes. It's pretty easy but you need to know where to put plates and stuff."

Hyunjin nodded. "Right."

When Hyunjin approached Felix, greeting him politely and sticking a hand out to shake, Felix stumbled in fear. He was afraid of Hyunjin possibility recognizing, though Felix was sure Hyunjin's never caught Felix. Besides, Hyunjin was still a full-bred human, and Felix was afraid of them.

Felix let out a nervous laugh when Hyunjin sent him a curious glance.

"Once they leave, throw trash away and dishes in sink. Then wipe it down." Felix said before turning and leaving to behind the counter.

"Felix." Hyunjin whispered, leaning on the counter. He pointed up at Felix's beanie. "Some of your ear is sticking out."

Felix quickly pulled the beanie down, seeing that Hyunjin was right. Part of his grey fur from his ear was sticking out from under the beanie. He quickly mouthed a thank you before turning around to head to the back.

He froze, turned around, and gave Hyunjin a mortified look that said 'please don't hurt me'.

"Don't worry." Hyunjin chuckled. "I won't tell anyone. That's why I warned you. But uh," Hyunjin cleated his throat. "What's your favorite animal?" He said a bit louder than before, obviously asking for Felix's hybrid animal.

"Koala." Felix said, feeling a little more at ease now that he knew there was someone he could possibly trust.

Hyunjin nodded. "I like Koala's, too. They're cute."

Felix's cheeks were tinted a light pink from the last comment.

"Since we seem to have so much in common, how about a date this weekend?" Hyunjin suggested.

Felix's eyes lit up and his face illuminated with a bright smile. "Okay."

Hyunjin returned Felix's smile, leaving a comfortable silence between the two.

"Okay, lovebirds." Their manger pushed past Felix. "Opening time."

-

Sitting inside Hyunjin's grande apartment, with his ears out and exposed to the fancy air was not the kind of date he was expecting, but he'd rather enjoyed it. It felt a little more free and comfortable in an environment where he could live as if he wasn't discriminated.

"I don't understand why people gate hybrids." Hyunjin said, gently feeling Felix's ears with as light as a touch as a feather.

What Felix definitely liked about Hyunjin was not just how kind he was, but his gentle he was.

Felix shrugged. "People are people. Hybrids are mistakes."

"Mistakes?" Hyunjin repeated, giving Felix a confused look.

"Hybrids were made by people. It was an accident. Then they turned into experiments which they slowly turned into rogue. They attacked back after all the torture they went through and left." Felix glanced at Hyunjin. "That's why people hate us."

Hyunjin nodded. "I didn't know that. But hybrids had a reason to attack, they were being used as experiments."

"It's always about the humans, they never do anything wrong." Felix mocked. "That's why we were blamed."

Hyunjin shook his head, pulling Felix into a hug. "At least they live upon us now. Not necessarily peacefully but not necessarily in agony."

"They live in fear." Felix said. "I'm sure every single hybrid has watched another hybrid die before their eyes by humans."

Hyunjin frowned. "We are kind of a messed up species, I'm not gonna lie." Hyunjin admitted. "We're too cocky about everything and think we're always in the right."

Felix slightly smiled. "I'm glad there's one human I can trust."
