So, I've recently watched the three 'Golden Kamuy' OVAs, and―man, it's a whole barrel of laughs, mixed with a great amount of badass.

For one, the old man Nagakura Shinpachi―yes, that Shinpachi you might know of in 'Hakuoki' (or 'Peacemaker Kurogane', even), only depicted much more accurately for the time period―has actually bothered to go the extra mile on the first OVA, just to get the tattooed skin that may or may not lead to the "metric fuckton of gold" I've written on my earlier (formal) animé review. But, once again, the viewers are reminded that Nagakura Shinpachi―despite the old age taking a toll on him―is not a feared ex-Shinsengumi swordsman for nothing; in my opinion, he is a more formidable foe than the (in)famous "Demon Commander" Hijikata Toshizou, who is depicted in the series as still alive and kicking. Once challenged by someone foolish enough to take on an old man, Shinpachi will slice them down―all while on a state of tranquil fury.

The second OVA highlights Shiraishi Yoshitake's exploits, and how he unknowingly cemented his legacy as the most notorious escape artist, on par with Harry Houdini. All because of his quest to find the woman of his dreams, drawn on a piece of paper by a fellow inmate―the master forger, Kumagishi Chouan. And boy, that really made me laugh like a hyena on the prowl.

Lastly, the third OVA presents us with the most badass homosexual in the series: Wakayama Kiichirou. While he is depicted as a round and overweight Yakuza boss, he can easily slice down his enemies with a katana―provided that he holds it upright, like a true samurai would.

Now that the third season of 'Golden Kamuy' is on the works, I am expecting another great adventure.
