Today was free for everyone, no matches were scheduled. You imagined everyone would like to do their own things but instead they slept in. All except a few, like Emily, Martha, Eli and yourself. You were early birds anyways so waking up this early was normal.
"(Y/n) did you want a coffee?" Emily asked fiddling with pots and pans. She was offering to make stuff since it was just you four that were awake. "No thank you." You watched her make cookies that Martha had asked for. She would've done it herself but she almost burned the kitchen down the last time she was making eggs.
"Well I'll call you when the cookies are done. Didn't you want to do anything today?" She asked. You thought about it already, and you weren't sure. "I'll just go to the lounge then, the fire has been started right?" She nodded and you began your walk to your desired destination.
The lounge was used when everyone just wanted to chill out together by the fire or Emma wanted to sleep with everyone in the same room. As you walked in, your eyes caught sight of Eli and his blue eyes. Honestly they were like a new born kittens crystal colored eyes.
"Hello Eli." You said as gently as possible as to not startle him. He turned to see you and smiled wearily. Maybe the fact he did not have his blindfold on. You walked up and sat down next to him in the dark room, soft light coming from the fire. "I could leave if you want?" He said smiling, which you only looked at him with a shocked expression.
"No- I don't want you to leave actually." You reassured him with your own smile as you looked into his eyes, however his demeanor got worse. He started to fidget under your gaze. Perhaps since he was always wearing a blindfold, sewing peoples eyes was nerve racking.
"Eli." You said softly yet he jumped. "Y-yes?" He said, his blue orbs now flicking to behind you occasionally. "I really like your eyes."
He stopped moving and his face shifted to surprise. "Really?" You nodded, still smiling. "I like yours too." He chimed, scooting closer to you. He let out a sigh and looked at the fire. "H-hey (Y/n), can I ask you something?" His voice was shaky and you only hummed in reply.
"Do you think I'm a good teammate, like when we play in matches? I was thinking, usually we can choose if we want to play in a match. Everyone usually came and asked me to join..."
You looked up at Eli who had an almost fearful look on his face. You wondered to what he was getting at. "Eli?" You put a hand on his arm to catch his attention but he only continued. "I kept agreeing, because to be honest I liked how everyone came to me for help. They believed that just having me on their team was good luck. Eventually I got tired but when more people started coming to the Manor no one really... wanted me anymore. After Norton got here, they've always gone to him and Patricia too. But then again they are great kiters, at least better than me."
Your eyes widened at his own put downs. Th expression on his face was dry as if he was no good anymore. "E-Eli!" You turned to him almost violently and he looked back down at you with widened eyes. Your face began to heat up out of nowhere and your confidence wavered. "I- I don't think that!" He was silent, his features still discouraged. "You don't?" His voice was raised a pitch as his eyes glossed over.
You shook your head and smiled. "I think your a great teammate, even to this day! I love when your on my team, you make me feel extra safe when I run into you too because I know how good you are."
His eyes seemed to glimmer at your compliments as his face was dusted with a light pink. "Eli you're a great person, and being good in a match doesn't define how much people like you." He smiled and began to readjust his position. Eli laid down and placed his head on your lap. "Ah-! E-Eli?" Your hands wavered around in the air, unsure of where to place them, but he faced up to you and grabbed your hands, placing them on his face. "You really believe in me?"
Your eyes widened before softening as a motherly instinct came over you. You moved your hands across his hair, petting him. "I always will." Eli celebrated to your words silently as he grinned at your loving actions.
"Your hands are so soft." He mumbled, closing his eyes. The fires warmth was comforting as you leaned back onto the couch and closed your eyes, humming in reply to his compliment.
The warmth from the fire took over you, as you began to fall asleep with the small pressure of Eli on your legs. Eli got up, noting your soft and steady breaths. "(Y/n)?" He whispered. No reply, and he mentally cheered. His hands softly caressed your sleeping face, enjoying the sight with a small smile, and he kissed your forehead ever so softly,
"Thank you, for comforting me
(Y/n)."
