(This is very old qwq)

"Melly!" You greeted walking into the small greenhouse. She was a new survivor, and it wasn't odd to find the newly placed peers off on their own, especially somewhere distant.

"(Y/n)... right?" She said slowly, and you smiled, coming to sit by her. It was normal for your new friends to be shy coming into the manor one by one, some were cold and distant, others were meek and scared, so you wanted to ease their nerves and be their first friend most of the time. All you really knew was that is what you would want if you were them.

"What are reading?" You peered into the book she held and she was silent for a moment. "Just about butterfly's.." Her voice wasn't very scratchy or loud, it was almost rich. You hummed, staring at the picture of the monarch. "Do you like butterflies (Y/n)?" You looked up at her mask and felt a sudden uncomfortable mood, no face to read or understand, you may have bit off more than you could chew with the entomologist.

"Oh, they're neat- I think their wings are very beautiful though." You said looking back to the page. You seen her fingers grip the sides and you pursed your lips nervously. "Takes one to know one.." Her words made you jump up and look at her with wide eyes, but before you could inquire she brought a hand to her mask as if covering her mouth. "Sorry, I'm trying to flatter you in order to make acquaintance." That made your eyes widen even more, was she implying she didn't mean what she said? But she caught you once more. "But I'm not dishonest. You are a very pretty woman (Y/n)."

Your face grew hot and your stomach dropped. "Th-thank you." No one's ever complimented you, at least not in a while, so her sudden flirtation caught you off guard. "Would you like to read with me?" All of a sudden the reason you came here shattered, it seemed Melly wasn't shy at all, just one to be by herself. And you had made the mistake of confusing that.

"Sure.." You couldn't leave so suddenly, and she still hadn't befriended anyone else, so you felt obligated to stay with her. "Lovely," She said, scooting to be snug against your side. "The scientific name for Monarchs is Danaus plexippus, they can also be called Tiger milkweed butterflies. It belongs to the Nymphalidae family.."

Her voice trailed off in your ears, your heart still beating pretty roughly. Melly could interact with anyone she wished, she just chose not to here at the manor, and you felt like a fool for thinking otherwise.

"(Y/n)?" You flinched and titled your head up. "Yes?"

"I asked you something, are you not that interested?" You grew hot and threw your hands up. "N- no! I mean I am! But I meant no to not being interested-!"

You rambled with a soft blush, not being able to take her strong presence and looking away. The warmth of the girl was comforting, yet it made your heart race. "(Y/n)." She said softly, and you lightly shivered. Her voice was as smooth as honey, and it had a gentle touch. "Y-yes!?" You didn't dare look up, your nervous habits getting the better of you. "I'll teach you what you'd like to know." She wrapped an arm around your waist and reached around for the book that she moved into your lap. Your eyes widened, and your stomach swirled. "Thank you..." Your eyes were glued onto the pages of her book, and you were ready to continue with her melodic voice reading the words to you... but there was no voice. She took her arm off of you, and you froze. Did you do something wrong???

"Melly?" You asked, looking up to her, and your face instantly flushed. You seen her reluctant gesture was not out of distaste, but of revelation. Her hand that was once around you, was now holding her mask up. Her eyes were gentle but striking, and her lips were a delicate pink stuck in a sweet smile. "Are you nervous?" She asked, her eyes squishing softly, amused at your expression of pink.

"I-!" Your cheeks were hot and your hands began to sweat little by little. "Yes." You replied meekly, her stare making you feel the need to be honest.

"Did you only say you were interested in butterflies for me?"

"N- no I really.. do like you.. Butterflies! I really do like butterflies!"

You slapped your hands onto your face and she let out a small chuckle, letting her mask back down. "You find me pretty?" You peeked through your fingers, only to stare at the plants of the greenhouse. "Y- you are very pretty Melly.." She smiled unbeknownst to you before closing her book and standing. "Well, I'll have to share my face with you more often won't I." She didn't ask, she told you, she was going to let you glance her face every now and then and that made your stomach flip flop as she walked away.

"Thank you for coming to befriend me, (Y/n). I'm glad you did."

You heard her walk up the stairs and open the door before it shut. At that you sighed and ran your fingers through your hair. That was nothing like how you'd expected it to go. "Melly.." You said, enjoying the sound of her name.

"Yes?"

You stood up and whipped your head around to see the woman still standing on the steps and you gaped. "Wh-!"

"I didn't leave I just pretended too." You could hear the amusement in her voice, catching you doing something pretty unusual and your reddened face. "I like when you say my name, it sounds nice. Goodnight, (Y/n)." And with your eyes glued to her, she really left this time. Your heart was on the verge of popping out from your chest.

What that woman did to you was chaotic to your emotions, but in some new way you never felt, it was good.
