His heavy breaths were loud in his ears, but that was not the only thing the worn Mercenary heard. A constant ringing and sounds to loud to even block out blared in his head. Although he was afraid and shaking, he placed a hand over his mouth to keep quiet. Why bother others about his past? No one would care, just keep it to yourself.
The thunder boomed out in the night as rain tattered loudly on his window of the dark room. The boy whimpered into his hand as he lowered his head, attempting to cover his ears but to no avail. When a quick and bright flash of lighting shown through his windows he couldn't help but jump knowing what came next. The loud crashing thunder followed swiftly in pursuit as the boy couldn't help but let out a yelp. He shut himself up, and backed into the corner of the room shaking. He hated how he felt. He was afraid of a storm? How pathetic. But he couldn't help that it sounded so much like those weapons. He couldn't help it.

Your eyes popped open from what you thought was a sense of uncertainty. You weren't thirsty or had to go to the bathroom, so why'd you wake up? You rose up and looked around the dark room when a small flicker of lighting shown. The rain and thunder rumbled outside and you thought it was actually very calming, the perfect weather to sleep in. So you plopped back down into your bed and were just about to close your eyes when a brighter and quicker flash of light luminated from outside. This will be loud.
You waited, and didn't have to wait long, when a loud boom practically made the manor shake. You would've just gone back to sleep had you not heard a muffled yelp from next door. You rubbed your eyes and sat up once more before thinking who you were next to again. Tracy was awfully scared of thunder but she slept with Emma tonight. She was not afraid to ask for comfort and cry about her fear of thunderstorms. So who was it? You were so dazed that you couldn't think straight until you finally remembered. Naib. It all clicked and you instantly got to your feet, not minding the cold floor and taking a blanket with you as you scurried out of your room.
You closed your door and didn't even think to check if Naib's door was locked before turning the knob and swinging the door open. Your eyes flicked from his messy bed to the corner where he cowered in fear. "Naib." You whispered breathlessly. You closed the door behind you and jogged over to him before falling on your knees to his level. He shook violently as he buried his head into his knees, a hand over his mouth. He didn't hear you at all, as if a whole other layer of sound was blocking out your subtle voice. But what could he be hearing? You knew it was nothing good.
You didn't want to startle him and give him a heart attack or anything, so you took your light blanket off of yourself and started to wave it around him. He barley flinched at the soft touch of fabric and looked up to you. His expression was different from yours. His pupils were dilated out of pure dread, and his all out expression was panic. Your own was soft and warm as you gave him a small smile of comfort.
"It's okay." You faintly said. His expression worsened though it was not out of terror this time, but out of relief. "(Y-y/n)." His voice was cracked and shaken. You let the blanket fall around him and wrapped his trembling form up nice and tight. "You're okay Naib, I'm here." You scooted to him as closely as possible and his hands shakily outstretched to you. His hands clasped your back and he pulled you close which alarmed you. "P-please-" He whispered. His grip became tight as he held you. "Don't go." He quivered, hands in fists as he held your clothes, as if you were going to disappear with a snap of a finger. "I'm not going anywhere." Your own arms wrapped around him and you rubbed his back before a few minutes passed. He would need to sleep.
"Naib you have to sleep now."you tried to back up to look at him but he wouldn't let you. "P-please don't leave me... I- I'm so scared."
Your heart shattered when he said that. Unlike Tracy, Naib would never let anyone know his weaknesses, or if he was frightened by something. No one knew what the Mercenary feared but after years of your own experience, you caught something. He was always around everyone, always making sure everyone was here, and in matches, he would never like the idea of leaving someone behind, even if it meant dying with them.
He was afraid of being alone.
"Naib... I would never leave you." You said awfully cheery. Your warming words made him look up at you. "I don't want to hurt people anymore. I don't want to remember what it's like to loose something important to me. I don't want to be alone (Y/n).." His voice was desperate and his eyes gleamed with tears. You gently wiped them away.
"I'll stay til you fall asleep then." You coaxed him to stand, only then did you realize how shaky his legs were. His stance wobbled as you aided him to his bed. You set him down softly and pulled the sheets up. "There." You sung. He looked at you worried as you sat down and offered your hand to his. He took it tightly and closed his eyes.
You yourself looked out the window, rain still tattered and the thunder was distant so you believed it was going away. You closed your eyes too but couldn't help open them whenever Naib flinched to a small rumble of thunder. You frowned. You sitting here with him and holding his hand was barley enough to calm him. "Naib." You whispered and to no surprise he was wide awake. "Yeah?" A look of fear crossed his face, as if you were about to say you were tired and would need to leave. "Scoot over." You waved your hand at him and his eyes widened as he understood your intentions. He eagerly did what you asked and shuffled into the sheets, happy with your close presence. Your (E/c) eyes looked at him and his nervous ones looked back. "It's okay." Your hands went to his cheeks and you squished them. His face lightened up and he stifled a small laugh.
Although it was sweet, it was not enough. He would still flinch in front you. You sat up and he followed your actions quickly like you were about to walk out. "No-." You pushes him back down and reluctantly let you. "I'll hold you." You smiled to his embarrassed look before laying back down and wrapping around him best you could to your ability. Of course Naib was bigger than you, so it wasn't the best but it seemed to solve the problem.
Naib would always look behind him in matches as if he was being watched or followed. So you supposed he was also afraid of what he didn't know, or couldn't see, that was your guess at least. But now that you were behind him he didn't feel the need to have a fear of something lurking behind him. But he felt bad about you being behind now, and couldn't help but reach his hand to one of your own. "Thank you, (Y/n)." Was all he mumbled before going quiet.
Despite saying you'd leave after he fell asleep, you didn't want to. You wanted to stay, you liked this feeling of making him feel safe. So you got as close as possible and you'd decide to stay there for the night. "You're welcome."
