Harrison

That afternoon Amy and I spent some time together going for lunch and some grocery shopping. She promised me a cake so she got the ingredients needed to make it for me which was so nice of her. She's really funny and kind. After a few hours of goofing around in the grocery we made our way home to rest and get ready for the gathering tonight. I parked the car in the garage and helped her take the bags up to her apartment.

"Wanna come in?" she said as she unlocked the door. "Ummm I can come help you put the stuff away but I have to leave after to shower for tonight.'' The truth is I did want to spend more time with her and this was a perfect excuse to do so.

"Oh right we all are gathering tonight! What's it like? Do I have to dress fancy or will just a T-shirt and jeans do?" she asked walking in and letting me in.

"No, nothing fancy. It's just the guys and their partners or wives hanging out, mostly drinking and joking around."

"Oh great , I was not in the mood to dress up. Which is weird because I'm always looking for an excuse to dress up." she said laughing as she put her purchases in the fridge.

"That's what being by the beach does to you, you get used to just being in swimming trunks that sometimes you just wish it was OK to just wear that everyday." I said laughing, handing her a bucket of milk. She giggled and closed the fridge door.

"SO, when do you want your cake ?" She asked laughing.

"Oh I want that as soon as possible." I relied. she laughed.

Just as she was about to say something her phone started to ring. "Oh sorry... It's my mom."

"Oh I'll leave then so you can talk."

"No no... it's ok, stay. Might be a good idea that she meets who I'm working with. She is usually very stressed about who I hangout with since... you know." she said walking to the couch and sitting down.

She opened her phone and immediately her mother's face showed up.

"Heeeyyy mommm"

"Hi sweetie, how are you? Have you settled in yet?"

"Yes mom, everything is great. Sorry I was going to call you last night but I fell asleep."

"its ok love, how was your tryout?"

"It was great, I got the job."

"Ahhhhh I'm so happy for you...."

"Thanks mom... mom I want you to meet someone..." she said as she scooted closer to me. "This is Harrison, he is my co-worker."

"Hello..." I said seeing her mum's face for the first time. She was a beautiful, kind looking older woman. Now I know where Amy gets her beauty.

"Oh Hiii, nice to meet you. How are you?"

"I'm very well thank you. How are you?" I asked.

"I'm good, great when I see her." she said looking at Amy.

"Aww mom... I miss you so much."

"we miss you too honey. So much." I looked over to Amy she had a sad smile on her face.

" So how is it going? How is dad?"

"He is good. We all are good, don't worry."

"hmmm... ok mom... you will tell me if anything happened right?"

"Yes love... don't worry."

As Amy talked to her mom I kinda zoned out, thinking back to what she told me in the car. Was that why she was worried about her mom? Was he after her? She deserves so much good in her life. I wonder what he did to her that made her so scared of him.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when Amy elbowed me on my side.

"Hm? Oh sorry... What ?"

"I just wanted to thank you for taking care of my girl today. I hope to meet you soon."

"Oh yeah absolutely... no problem. I hope to meet you soon too."

She Smiled and said "Ok, I'm gonna go to sleep. It's very late here. Good night guys. I love you Amy."

"Love you too mom. Good night."

"Goodnight" I said quickly before she ended the call.

Amy put her phone on the coffee-table and looked at me. "What ?" she said with a smile.

"nothing ..." i replied shrugging.

"no you were thinking something about me." She said narrowing her eyes.

"Ho... how do you know?" I was dumbfounded. Was I staring at her?

"well ... you've been staring at me for a very long time." she said giggling with a sas.

"I'm sorry... yea I was... I was just thinking... about... how much you look like your mom and how much I miss mine." I said not wanting to bring up her ex.

"so ... call her..." she said looking at me seriously.

" Okay '' I said, taking my phone out and scrolling through my contacts.

 "Wait you're doing it now?"

"Yeah, why not?" I stopped on my mum's name and called her.

A few rings later she picked up "hey mum, how are you?"

After we talked to mum and introduced Amy to her I hung up and looked at Amy. "I guess I'm gonna go now. It's already 5..." I trailed off.

"yea ... ummm thanks for today Harrison I had a really good time. Let's do it again" she said with a big smile.

"Yea definitely... and no problem. I'll see you at 7 downstairs OK?" I said pulling her in for a hug. She hugged back, her arms wrapped around my waist with her head right under my chin. She slowly pulled away, "I'll see you in a few hours," she said quietly. I nodded and she walked me to the front door. Said bye and started to head to my apartment.

Was it weird that I wanted to keep her in my arms? Is it bad that I feel so good being around her even though I've only known her for 2 days?
