Chapter 15

Hill took us to the secret facility. A man runs towards us. Doctor.

"GSW. She's lost at least a pint."

"Maybe two." Sam adds in.

"Let me take her." Everyone goes to follow me.

"Stop, Maria they'll want to see him."

After being patched up I met everyone in the big room.

"This man declined the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, 'Peace wasn't an achievement, it was a responsibility.' See, it's stuff like this that gives me trust issues."

"We have to stop the launch." I say making my presence known.

"I don't think the Council's accepting my calls anymore." Fury opens a case containing three chips.

"What's that?" Sam asks.

"Once the Helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they'll triangulate with Insight satellites becoming fully weaponized." Maria said.

"We need to breach those carriers and replace their targeting blades with our own."

"One or two won't cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work, because if even one of those ships remains operational a whole lot of people are gonna die."

"We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is HYDRA. We need to get pass them, insert the server blades, and maybe, just maybe, we can salvage what's left."

"We're not salvaging anything. We're not just taking down the carriers, Nick, we're taking down SHIELD." Steve says in annoyance.

"SHIELD had nothing to do with it."

"You gave me this mission. This is how it ends. SHIELD's been compromised, you said so yourself. HYDRA grew right under your nose and nobody noticed." I like watching Steve take charge. It's hot....
Lette focus Jesus.

"Why do you think we're meeting in this cave? I noticed."

"And how many paid the price before you did?"

"Look, I didn't know about Barnes."

"Scarlette did. Even if you have, would you have told me? Or would you have compartmentalized that too? SHIELD, HYDRA, it all goes." Steve sneers. Guess he's still upset about me hiding things from him.

"He's right." I say. Fury looks at Natasha then Sam.

"Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower." Sam says. I stifle a laugh.

"Well... Looks like you're giving the orders now, Captain."

I watch Steve walk out of the room. I turn to go after him.

"I wouldn't." Nat says pulling me back.

"I don't care. I already lost one love, I can't lose another." I walk outside to see him talking to Sam.

"I'll give you two a moment."

"I'm sorry." He doesn't say anything. He just looks at me like I'm the most evil person he's ever met. "Are you going to talk to me?" He stays silent. "God Steve! How would you feel if the first person you ever loved came back and you found out they were alive and is now a killing machine with no morals?"

"You said he trained you. So, you knew he was alive and you didn't tell me." I can tell how upset Steve is with me.

"Yes. But he was in Cyro most of the time. There's more than one of them I didn't know it was him." That's only half true. The others haven't been awake for years.

"Did you know after the first encounter?"

"You saw me realize it was him. How can you assume I was hiding it?"

"Because you're really good a lying and I have no idea when you're telling the truth or not."

"Steve, I have never lied to you."

"You lied about this." Not saying something isn't lying.

"You didn't ask so I didn't tell you. You don't just say 'Hey I was involved with your best friend who by the way is alive and is a serial killer HYDRA uses as a puppet for them to kill off anyone who's a threat to them including Starks parents. Oh, also I was married to him before I was rescued by Barton and led to believe he was dead or put back in Cyro again for the hundredth time'. They wiped his mind so many god damn times, he has no idea who he is or who he used to be."

"You were married to him?" He sounds angry. It's nothing compared to how I feel.

"That's what you take away from what I just told you?" He nods. "Yes I was married to him. I still carry the rings around my neck." I pull the chain out from under my shirt to show a disformed silver bands. He grabs them and looks at them. He lets out a sound of disgust.

"I can't believe you'd hide this from me."

"I hid it from everyone. Only Nat knew. It's not something you openly tell people."

"But you could have told me."

"And risk you going out and looking for him? Steve you'd be dead before you even started again." He goes to say something but I stop him. "Steve you tend to go into things without a plan when it comes to your life. You know how to lead the avengers but when it comes to doing things without them you don't use your brain and you'd be dead because you wouldn't have anyone to back you up."

"Glad to know you think I'm so reckless." I want to roll my eyes at him so hard.

"Steve that's not what I mean and you know that." He just looks at me and turns around to walk away. "Where are you going?"

"If you're gonna fight a war you need to wear a uniform."

"This isn't a war Steve." He keeps walking away. "He doesn't remember you Steve. If he did, they would have wiped him again. We need to stop him and take him down before he kills us again."

"He's my best friend I can't do that."

"And he was my husband. I'm still going to stop him. No matter what. If you get in my way, I'll stop you too."

"Then don't get in my way of saving my best friend." He walks off going to do god knows what.

Ooooo. Now Steve knows what she was hiding. But there's always more secrets to be unleashed. :)))
