Jin POV
"State your name please," Officer Choi asks as he starts typing into his computer.
"Kim Seokjin," I reply softly.
"Are you feeling better Mr. Kim?" My lower lip curls between my teeth and I start nervously picking at it trying to come up with an answer. Detective Choi looks up from his computer and has a look of sympathy on his face. "This case is basically open and shut. All the evidence points to self-defense, but we still have to hear your statement. You're not in trouble Seokjin. Just be honest and the sooner I get your statement the sooner you can go home."
I nod to show I understand and start at the beginning. "I had an appointment with Seoul University, and was running late. There had been an accident earlier today so traffic was a major issue, so I decided to take an alternative route. This road was more stranded so everything was going smoothly until I felt a bump, like my tires went over something."
"What happened after?"
"I got out of the car and checked on the tires and then I heard someone come up behind me and then everything went dark."
Detective Choi nodded as he continued typing. "Where were you when you regained consciousness?"
"I was strapped to a chair in the Kim mansion wine cellar. Seoyun wasn't in the room, but I could hear her talking on the phone outside."
"What did you hear, Mr. Kim?"
I take a deep breath recounting the experience. "She was going to kill me, and then she was going to kill my older brother, Namjoon."
"How did you react?"
"I felt like I lost control. I started fighting against the restraints and the chair until they both broke off. She heard the commotion and rushed towards me. She knocked me down and that's when I saw the gun poking out of her bag on the floor. I picked it up and pointed it at her. It was just supposed to scare her but she laughed and said I wasn't capable. She said she was going to enjoy watching Taehyung break once again after finding my dead body in the same place that she had him raped back in high school. Then she launched herself at me and I-" I choke on my own words scared to say the ending of the story.
"Then you what, Mr. Kim?"
"I-I-I shot her. Twice. O-o-one bullet went through her chest and the other one through her throat, she fell back and I blanked out after. The next memory I have after that is sitting in the back of an ambulance holding on to my boyfriend."
Detective Choi continues typing for a couple more minutes then closes his laptop. "I will review the statement for any grammatical errors then send you an official copy to look over before it goes down with the remaining case files. For now you're free to go. You're going to be okay."
I wince at the ending of his statement. Okay. This whole day that's what everyone keeps telling me. That everything's going to be okay, but why don't I feel okay? It was self-defense, but I took the life of another human, and even if she was a bad person, with the pull of a trigger I ended her life. I close my eyes and I can still see the bullets go through her. Her blood is still on my clothes, skin and hair, and the gunpowder is still on my hands even after washing them for more than ten minutes.
"I'm a killer," I whisper. Saying it out loud causes me to shudder.
"You are," Detective Choi agrees.
"Soobin!" His partner exclaims, but Detective Choi waves him off and turns back to me.
"I'm telling you this as a stranger so it's easier to understand. It's harsh, but it's the truth. You killed Seoyun. No matter how many times your loved ones outside tell you, that it's justified and try to reassure you that you made the right decision, it doesn't take away from the fact that you ended someone's life. That piece of knowledge isn't going anywhere. You're a killer and that's a fact," his partner gets up, but Detective Choi shoots him down again. "That being said," he continues, "don't let this be the reason to stop living your life.
