After another hour passing, Hisoka eventually came back to sit with everyone in aim of seeing what was on the hard drive.
Waiting for laptop to switch on, he saw you, freshly out the shower, blood free, dressed in black tights, a baggy boyish jacket and what he actually didn't want to see right now..
You pulling your bags from behind.
Your face, especially your right cheek and neck were darkly bruised. It was obvious that you attempted to dodge a knife by the straight gash that ran across your other cheek till your ear.
Although he was quiet, unable to comprehend emotions properly but observant, Illumi realized that you still needed to lift up your bags down the stairs and your body was definitely not in the best condition to be carrying weights even though you did act and walk like nothing was wrong.
Getting up, Illumi walked up the stairs and took the bags from your hand.
"Thank you." You curtly spoke, slowly walking down with him.
"So what are you going to do now?" Illumi asked, curious about your plans after such a big event.
"I'm going to go to Itachi's place. Eat a slab of chocolate and prepare for my Physical Science Olympia that is in 9 hours." You replied, utterly void from any emotion as you walked past everyone sitting down.
Illumi was emotionally detached and didn't practice social cues correctly, but even he was surprised that you were going to function as normal right after killing several dozens of people and being injured so badly.
Stopping by the front door, Illumi turned around to face you.
"Y/n. Thank you for saving my brother. You truly are a woman of your word. You told me awhile ago you will not let anything bad happen to him and so you didn't. Thank you." The stoic man sincerely spoke, placing one hand on your shoulder.
"Anytime Illumi." You responded in a very short manner. Not that you had anything against him, you just weren't in the mood to socialize right now.
Ready to open the door, you felt tiny arms wrap around your leg - oh how could you ignore your favorite baby.
" Thank you." He muffled against your leg, clearly still shaken up about everything by the tears that stained his cheeks.
With a melting heart and painful movement, you slowly crouched down on one knee - didn't matter which at this point because both were injured.
Wrapping your arms around his tiny body, you rested your chin over his head and sighed.
"Stay near your brother always okay?" You cooed motherly.
Pulling back to stare at you, Killua nodded childishly, "Good boy." You warmly smiled as you wiped his tears away.
Using Illumi's extended arm to pull yourself up because you didn't have the strength too. "Just leave my bags on the porch. Itachi will arrive in a bit."
Obeying, Illumi placed your bags down and left you to be.
..
"I'm not going to give you a lecture or shout. I'm just glad you alive.." Your best friend finally spoke, after a long silent drive back home.
After helping you unpack, Itachi ordered you to take off your jacket and tights so he could tend to the several wounds he knew you were hiding.
" Damn Y/n... "Itachi whispered, taken aback by the tons of bruising and cuts you had all over your body. Grateful that you at least sealed the gunshot wounds, Itachi cleaned the cuts that still bled because of all your movement before stitching it closed.
" Why aren't you shouting at me.." You finally spoke, but in a low and sullen undertone.
Gently caressing your skin, Itachi distantly smiled. "What is shouting going to achieve? I can advice you to not do certain things, but that advice will fall on deaf ears on a person that isn't willing to change. And I know you won't change because you like him don't you? You will do this all over again in a heartbeat for him because he crept into your heart and made you loyal to him, hence you fight his enemies without any disregard for your life. "
" When I'm gone one day.." Five words that made your lips tug down out of sadness because you refused to believe Itachi will die.
" - Hisoka will be the one that will get you through my death. I'm not going to tell you to stop associating yourself with a man like him because the care of a mafia leader, is a care that is unique to find and experience. If he feels for you half of what you feel for him, that man will go to the ends of the earth to make you happy. Eradicate whatever sadness that lingers within you. "
" He's going to be the reason why you will want to continue living Y/n. I just know. So although him and everything about his life is dangerous, I am not going to tell you to stay away from the only person I know will take care of you when I can't anymore.. "
" He doesn't care for me. He said so himself. " You depressively muttered.
Immediately Itachi wanted to tell you he does, even he could see Hisoka does care about you in some way, but he knew convincing you of the truth you refused to believe right now was pointless.
" Well then, I'll make sure to stick around forever to care for you if he doesn't." Itachi warmly assured, glad he could make you ghostly smile, even just a little.
Hugging Itachi, "Forever." You whispered back.
After Itachi was done aiding you, he helped you study for a bit until he passed out on your bed. Unlike you, Itachi needed his sleep, and he was blessed to be able to sleep because you knew he was going to total the paper today.
Placing a gentle kiss on his forehead, you covered him with your blanket and headed to the kitchen to make some coffee. Indeed your day was eventful and extremely tiring, but as usual you needed to stay awake for this paper.
With the hours ticking by, it was time to go school.
Looking at your reflection through the bathroom mirror after your shower, you let out a huge sigh at the thought of how long it'll take you to cover the marks on your face. The body was easy. All you needed to do was wear clothing that covered everything.
One stroke, two.
Two strokes, three.
Three turned into several other strokes of foundation you had to keep smearing over your face to hide the bruises and tiny scratches. After your foundation, you applied powder a tad shade darker than your skin, then blush on your cheekbones.
Done with your skin, you started doing your eyes. Winged eyeliner. Smokey eyeshadow and red matte lipstick to bring attention of others to look at that rather than your face and potentially have them see the wounds.
Realizing that the gash across your cheek was still noticeable, you let your hair down, pulled it all to the side to cover that half of your face and curled it to make it look pretty.
That's it.
Get beaten. Cover up your bruises with make up.
Cover your pain with make up.
Don't cry because it'll ruin that expensive mascara.
Put on some heels even though your body is aching.
Walk with your head held up high.
Walk with confidence and normalcy to give the impression everything is peachy.
The life of a girl.
The life of a girl that is meant to be perfect in the eyes of the public.
