"Hey, Griffin!"

"Hey, Raven." Clarke slumped into the chair across her friend, sipping her coffee, trying to get some energy into her system.

"Long day so far?"

"Yeah, a bit." She shifted in her seat, looking back at her friend, "Well, I mean, it's not that bad really. You know- Dr. Lincoln doing most of the work per usual," she gave a small chuckle.

"Oh yeah, I kinda forget you do nothing" Raven grinned.

"Hey! I still do stuff! It's not my fault I'm only allowed to perform smaller surgeries."

"Yeah, yeah. We get it, if you could, you'd be running that place, you nerd."

Clarke rolled her eyes at the lighthearted jab. "You say that as if you're not a complete nerd yourself."

"Says the girl who scored a perfect score on her board exam."

"It was a 98-"

"Same shit. Be honest, you're just mad you can't do anything more."

"Sure, Raven. No, actually, I'm rather enjoying having fewer responsibilities contra to popular belief."

Raven laughed. "It's obviously because you get to spend your lunch break with me instead of running around like all the doctors."

Clarke took the opportunity to make a jab in response. "Frankly, I could do without ten minutes of  your pestering every day."

"Sure you can, princess." She smiled, "Just admit it. You love me."

"Oh soo much." Clarke cracked a smile.

"Of course. Wouldn't have it any other way."

"Yuh-huh," Clarke rolled her eyes once more. "So you've yet to inform me on your day, beloved." she mocked.

"Oh please, nothing interesting ever happens to me. Well- I did meet Anya in the morning and she seemed-" Raven tensed her jaw, "just yikes."

Clarke looked confused. Even from only Raven's stories, that sounded out of the ordinary for the girl. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know. She mentioned something about 'going to kill Lexa-'"

Raven stopped herself halfway through her sentence, instantly regretting mentioning that name to Clarke after hearing how it broke her when the two stopped meeting. She held her breath and looked over to her friend, expecting tears yet knowing they wouldn't be there.

Instead, Clarke looked calm, just closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. "Raven, it's fine, really."

"Are- are you sure?"

She wasn't really, but there was no other option. After weeks of not hearing from Lexa right after developing a crush on her, all she could think about was how she was too obvious. That she screwed up, and Lexa knew, and she was uncomfortable. It hurt. It really fucking hurt. Because it had to have happened right after she started opening up again. Because she left the second Clarke fooled herself into having hope. And hope always betrayed her.

So, of course, she cried to Raven about it for days because how could she have convinced her into something so stupid. Because she was dumb enough to break her own rules. She was dumb enough to fall for her client. A stranger.

But as they say, with time, wounds heal. She couldn't blame Lexa for leaving. Her hook-ups with the girl still lasted longer than they should have. And all good things come to an end.

So, she was all right. Really. Despite having to hear her name, knowing her best friend still had some ties- now, closer ties than her- to Lexa.

"Yeah. I'm sure."

It's not like it was some sort of break-up or anything. It was just a crush. Admittedly, one that lasted too long.

"It's just that I know you really liked her and I guess I was dumb for thinking it was a two-way street. I just- I never meant to push anything in the wrong direction. I never expected-"

"Raven." Clarke looked at her with tired eyes, "We've been over this already. It's not your fault."

"I just really thought-"

"Can we just change the conversation, please?" Clarke looked at her with saddened eyes.

"Yeah. Of course."

Maybe she wasn't over it just yet. It hurt a little bit too much for her to be over it.

Remembering Dr. Lincoln still requested her assistance because they were a bit understaffed- despite the not-so-busy day- she decided to take her leave back to the hospital. Maybe it would nice to have her mind somewhere else. Perhaps a fulfilling but relaxing end of her workday was all she needed.

...

But it looked like she wasn't going to get one.

Only a few seconds after she managed to put on her apron, she heard yelling coming not far from where she entered. Before she could even turn her back, staff were rushing towards the scene. She quickly headed after them to see what was going on, meeting Dr. Lincoln there.

Someone was being rushed in from the ambulance.

"HELP! SHE'S HAVING A STROKE!!" a lady was screaming, holding onto a weak figure.

That was all she could hear above all the other voices- some trying to calm the yelling lady, others reacting to everything or asking what happened. All of a sudden it was so loud. It was so busy. She couldn't even take everything in or see anything before the person was being rushed into one of the rooms. For a moment, Clarke forgot what she was doing, completely lost in the confusion before Dr. Lincoln called her over into the room.

She rushed over, and he was already examining the patient while asking the lady questions. It was the first time she could even take a glimpse at the patient.

A defined, thin, female figure. Her hands were so delicate but dangled from her sides like they weighed tons. Her face was pale as snow, and drooping on one side from lack of muscle control. Her eyes seemed like they were giving up on her: tired, unfocused. Her body wasn't holding her either. With each breath, she looked like she was ready to topple over. She was clearly trying to stay awake, but with each bob of her head, she seemed to struggle more and more with looking back up, her long, brown hair pulling her head down. It was like staring at an almost lifeless body.

...

Clarke could feel her heart racing but simultaneously screeching to a dead halt.

Frozen. She couldn't breathe.

...

Lexa.
