It wasn't anything particularly special, but Clarke couldn't help but be excited. To be fair, campfires were a rather uncommon thing for city folk such as herself. And she knew Lexa and Anya invited everyone, but she couldn't see it as anything other than a free almost date.

I mean, c'mon: s'mores, games, wine - she really hoped Raven would bring wine-, blankets, cuddling under the stars? She knew she was setting the bar too high in her expectations given her friends were going to be there, and well, they were her friends, but was she really to blame for wishful thinking?

Besides, she got to escape the city for a bit. Even better, she could get as far away as possible from her creep ex for a whole weekend. And she wouldn't have to worry about bringing earplugs for once because Lexa offered her a ride as opposed to the party bus that was Murphy's car.

...

"You sure you have everything packed?"

"Yup." Madi nodded zipping her bag closed.

"Extra clothes? Toothbrush? Did you finish your homework?"

"Yes, yes, and yes." A pair of eyes rolled at Clarke's insistent asking.

"Okay. I'm just making sure." Clarke shook her head while going through her own bag.

Her daughter stood looming over her with her hands crossed, leaning against the bedframe. "Making sure I have everything, or making sure I don't see you packing your lingerie?" she cocked her brow.

If Clarke had been drinking any water she would have most definitely spit it out. "MADI GRIFFIN!"

"Lady, at this pace I'm going to have to buy you a dildo for your birthday."

"MADI!!!!!" Clarke could feel her whole face turn boiling red. These were the days she wish she had a normal mother-daughter relationship with Madi.

"Whaat? It's called being a supportive daughter."

But no. Her adoptive kid was only a good ten or so years younger than her and the peskiest 17-year-old ever.

"You can be a 'supportive' daughter by not meddling with my love life!!"

"Sex life." the girl corrected.

"Madi, I swear to God-" Clarke was interrupted by the buzzing of her phone, picking it up and leaving Madi a glare. "Hello?" Her tone changed immediately.

"Hey, you ready?"

"Yeah, one sec Lex. I just gotta change."

"Alrighty. Take your time. Anya and I are outside, waiting."

"It'll only be a bit."

"Do you need any help carrying anything?"

'Of course, Lexa was being the sweetest human being ever, per usual.' Clarke shook her head in a smile. "No, we're good."

"Okay."

She hung up, eyeing Madi. "I swear girly, if you say one more word about this, I'm throwing you out of that car, and you better hope your battery will last you long enough for the walk home."

Of course, Madi only laughed knowing all too well Clarke would have a panic attack faster than she could even get out of the car, let alone actually wish anything upon her.

To which Clarke responded with a fake sour face. "I hate you, you little rascal."

"No, you don't."

"No, I don't."

...

...

Thank all the heavens, Madi did not bring up their conversation during the ride, being too busy talking with Aden the whole time.
